We use our mobile units, like Otto, to reach rural communities and traditionally underserved populations. We meet people where they're at to reduce the stress that sometimes comes with going into an ODHS office. Services include help applying for medical, food, cash, and child care benefits, EBT card replacement, domestic violence survivor assistance, connection to community partner services and more.

Hazard Preparedness Workshop: Mapping Isolation in Lincoln County

What happens when a major hazard cuts off part of our community? Join OSU Extension Service and Oregon Sea Grant to map what each isolated area has, identify critical gaps, and prioritize practical preparedness actions.

Participants will:

Identify isolated areas by exploring how roads, bridges, fire, flooding, earthquakes, or other hazards could physically separate Lincoln County communities
Inventory local assets, including food, water, healthcare, shelter, communications, equipment, and people with key skills
Find critical gaps by discussing what could become scarce or inaccessible during an extended isolation period
Set preparedness priorities, including supply caches, fire defensible-space needs, and mitigation strategies

Mia Maldonado at the Oregon Capital Chronicle does an excellent job pointing out how fire can affect those already dealing with food insecurity.

The human services department received most wildfire replacement requests in July, when 107 households applied for replacement benefits.

September is ! 🎒🏠

Gov. Tina Kotek has proclaimed September as Preparedness Month in Oregon—a reminder that preparedness starts with simple steps we can take today to help our families and communities be ready for emergencies.

Throughout the month, OEM will be sharing tools, tips and resources from our Be 2 Weeks Ready program to help Oregonians build resilience and prepare to be self-sufficient for at least two weeks following a disaster.

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management (OEM) invites young artists across the state to participate in the Ready Oregon Youth Art Contest and show us what community preparedness means to them.

Oregon youth in grades K–12 are encouraged to create an original piece of art showing how people can work together to prepare for emergencies and disasters such as earthquakes, wildfires, floods, winter storms and more.

Need some inspiration? Learn how you, your family and your community can prepare for emergencies through Oregon’s Be 2 Weeks Ready program.

Who Can Enter?
The contest is FREE and open to all youth in grades K–12 in Oregon.

Entries will be judged in four grade-level categories:

Kindergarten–2nd grade
3rd–5th grade
6th–8th grade
9th–12th grade

Each category will recognize a First Place, Runner-Up and Honorable Mention. Youth may submit one entry each.

All artwork must be dropped off at a location in your area, or mailed in.

Important Dates
All entries must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2026. Winners will be notified by Friday, October 2, 2026.
