The Career Horizons Project, a 5-year grant funded by the U. S. The Career Horizons Project, funded by the U.S. Funded by U.S.

Department of Education, will serve Mississippi residents with disabilities accompanied by or resulting from Post-COVID Conditions / Long Covid by providing Placement & Retention Services. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), improves Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) services for Mississippi residents between the ages of 16 and 70 who have a disability accompanied by or resulting from Long COVID syndrome. Mississippi State University was one of 27 grantees across the nation chosen out of more than 200 applicants to receive the award from the Disability Innovation Fund program. This five-year grant project will run from October 1, 2024, to September 30, 2029. Department of Education, Grant Number H421F240107.

We had two CHP Vocational Counselors representing the Career Horizons Center at job fairs today!

Ms. Lakeesha Bogan attended the Lincoln County ReEntry job fair, and Ms. Abigail Long attended the Pinebelt Area Job Fair with Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

They both had the opportunity to share more about the FREE employment services that the Career Horizons Project offers to individuals struggling with Post-COVID Conditions. If you see them out and about, be sure to stop by and learn more about the Career Horizons Project!

Meet Layne LeBlanc, a Graduate Research Assistant with the Career Horizons Project!

Layne is a doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision at Mississippi State University and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).

Her professional and research interests include disability policy, clinical supervision, and vocational rehabilitation for individuals with chronic illness and disabilities. Layne is also actively involved in the rehabilitation counseling field, serving as Chair of the Student Committee for the Association for Rehabilitation, Research, Policy and Education (ARRPE).

We’re glad to have her back on the team for another year!

For some people, Post-COVID conditions can lead to new or worsening health conditions that affect daily life and employment.

POTS symptoms, such as dizziness, a racing heart, and fatigue, can make navigating the workplace more challenging.

Meet Neely Smith, a returning Graduate Research Assistant with the Career Horizons Project!

Neely is in her second year as a GRA while pursuing her degree in Rehabilitation Counseling at Mississippi State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from MSU in spring 2025, which sparked her interest in the field of rehabilitation counseling.

Neely is passionate about using the knowledge she gains through her education and personal experiences to support the individuals and communities served by CHP.

We’re glad to have her back on the team for another year!
