Dog-Harmony

Dog-Harmony We believe the relationship between dogs and humans is special. Simply put, we help dogs rescue people.

Dog-Harmony is a 501(c)3 charity dedicated to reducing the shelter population through ongoing community education and programs that enrich the human and animal bond. Founded in 2015 by professional dog trainer Nancy Bown, CPDT-KA,
Dog-Harmony is a non-profit 501(c)3 educational charity dedicated to enhancing the relationship between dogs and humans through ongoing community education in schools an

d libraries, and managing therapy dog engagements in hospitals and at-risk youth facilities. Dog-Harmony programs provide evidence-based information related to human interactions with dogs, and especially the care and well-being of these amazing animals. Understanding and empathy is the result of humane education and this significantly reduces the likelihood that a dog will be abandoned or surrendered to a shelter.

Thank you, Get The Coast, for sharing our news! 🐾 Click below to learn more about our Paws and Pages program at local libraries to help children keep their reading skills sharp with a furry therapy dog this summer!

DOGS & READING: Okaloosa and Walton County students have new opportunities to build reading confidence this summer through Dog-Harmony’s animal-assisted literacy program, Paws and Pages, offered at four public libraries in Niceville, Fort Walton Beach, Crestview and Freeport.

The program pairs children with registered therapy dog teams trained through READing Paws, an affiliate of R.E.A.D. (Reading Education Assistance Dogs), which Dog-Harmony describes as the nation’s first comprehensive animal-assisted literacy program. Sessions are held monthly at each branch and are open to children of all reading levels.

“Paws and Pages is about more than just books — it’s about the connection between the child and the dog that opens the door to a lifelong love of reading,” said Nancy Brown, founder of Dog-Harmony. “We see children who were once hesitant to read aloud suddenly blossom when they have a dog by their side.”

📚 Confidence starts with a safe space to try.

Through Dog-Harmony’s R.E.A.D. program, children are building reading confidence in a calm, supportive environment where reading aloud feels a little less intimidating and a lot more encouraging. 💙

Sometimes, all it takes is the right kind of listener to help a child believe in themselves.
