Neponset Rowing Club

Neponset Rowing Club Neponset Rowing Club was founded in 1888 and competed in area regattas until 1930. Over time, the club intends to offer competitive masters rowing to adults.

The club was re-started in 2013 by a group of experienced rowers who wanted to make the sport of rowing more accessible to the community. Neponset Rowing Club is a program operated by the Friends of Milton Crew (FOMC). FOMC is entirely volunteer-driven and is governed by a Board of Directors; it is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing rowing opportunities for youth (grades 7 – 12) in t

he surrounding areas of Milton. We provide young athletes with the opportunity to participate on competitive rowing teams under the guidance of coaches in a safe environment geared towards teenage athletics. FOMC supports rowing by generating operating funds, purchasing boats and other equipment necessary to support the teams. It also provides food and drinks to rowers at regattas and coordinates fundraising, social events, and activities throughout the year. FOMC is a member of US Rowing, the national governing body of rowing. One of the benefits of membership is insurance coverage; it protects all of our members while they are participating in covered activities such as practice. It also protects members while they are participating in registered regattas. In addition, we will have coverage for our boats and equipment in the event that they are damaged. Safety is our primary concern before any youth is allowed onto the water. All rowers must complete an application and sign a release of liability form. Rowers must also participate in a safety session and demonstrate sufficient swimming skills, including swimming 100 feet and treading water for 10 minutes. Rowers are expected to practice six days a week (Monday through Saturday). A typical practice takes about two hours from drop-off to pick up and consists of warm-ups, boat rigging, rowing, and breakdown. All rowers will be expected to comply with a code of conduct, including rules governing equipment use and safety. Parents of youth rowers should familiarize themselves with these rules, and are expected to be prompt at rower pick-up. Training will be provided on a regular basis by certified coaches, and will be supplemented by periodic clinics open to members hosted by experienced rowing veterans.

As Fall settles in, Neponset Rowing Club is preparing for a milestone evening at the Adams Inn in Quincy. On Friday, November 7, we’ll welcome Caryn as our keynote speaker.

Caryn is a three-time Olympic rowing medalist and recipient of the Thomas Keller Medal, the sport’s highest honor. She began her journey in a community program much like ours — and today leads Podium Law, advising startups and investors, and speaking widely on leadership and belonging.

Help Us Build the Future of Neponset Rowing Club!

As fall settles in, we’re preparing for a milestone event — the Fall Boathouse Gala on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Adams Inn in Quincy. This celebration of our community is also the kickoff to raising $50K toward our $350K campaign goal for a new boathouse.

We need your help to make it a success!

💡 Here’s how you can get involved:

- Donate items for the Silent Auction— tickets, gift cards, vacation stays, handcrafted goods & more.
-Become a Sponsor or Connect Us with Sponsors — showcase your business while supporting our mission.
-Volunteer — help us plan, run the event, or reach donors and sponsors.

Every contribution — whether from a local business, NRC alum, parent, or rowing supporter — makes a lasting impact. Together, we’ll build the future of rowing on the Neponset.
