This week, two of our summer interns, Emory Brooks and Kennedy Powell, stepped into a room full of Birmingham’s civic and business leaders for the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting of the Achievement of Alabama McWane Economic Education Center.

At The Leaf Pantry and Urban Farm, we believe in our youth. Not just the youth we serve, but the young people who show up to serve alongside us. Part of what we do this summer is put our interns in rooms where relationships are built, where community leaders are mentors, and where the work they are doing starts to connect to the bigger picture.

Emory and Kennedy represented The Leaf Pantry and Urban Farm well. We are proud of them both.

🌱 Investing in Our Youth, Cultivating Purpose 🌿

There is nothing more rewarding than guiding, motivating, and supporting the next generation as they discover their purpose. When we invest our time and love into young people, we help them build a foundation for a bright, successful future! ✨
We had the absolute pleasure of spending time with the incredibly talented Young Chefs from the Wenonah High School Academy of Culinary Arts, alongside their wonderful instructor, Ms. Pilgrim, while out at Jones Valley Teaching Farm’s Gather event! Watching these students showcase their passion and skills in the kitchen was truly inspiring. 🧑‍🍳👩‍🍳

We were also so incredibly blessed to have Sean Butler, Executive Chef at Regions, step in to offer some wonderful words of encouragement and mentorship to the students. Having an experienced industry leader pour into these young chefs and validate their hard work means the world!
We loved connecting with them all so much that we’ve officially invited the students to come out and visit us at the Urban Farm. When they do, you already know we are going to whip them up some amazing, fresh Urban Farm-to-table dishes! 🥬🥕🍲
