Today Super STEAM Saturdays in City of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida was AMAZING!

Inspired by we extended our Art meets Engineering lesson and created paper circuits. ⚙️💡⚡️🎨

First, we praticed building simple circuits using copper tape, a coin battery and a gumdrop LED. Then using the Robot Paper Circuit, we added lights.

They also took materials home to practice.

Today the students at Mimi’s Learning Center were introduced to block coding using Scratch.

The 2nd - 5th graders coded their characters (Sprite) to move, glide, jump, make sounds, and switch costumes. For first time coders these kiddos jumped right in & impressed us with their skills.

In Part 2 ... we'll introduce Micro:bits. Great job Jr. Coders! 💻🖱⌨️

We had the best time with our new Teen Science Café Network (TSC) Teen Leadership Team.

Over a pizza dinner, these amazing teen leaders learned more about TSC & upcoming duties, their interest in STEM and some possible workshop topics for other teen participants. It's going to be a great programming year with this group in charge 👏🏾 👏🏾 😁

Teen Science Cafés are programs where teens and STEM experts connect through conversations, interactive presentations, and hands-on activities.
Each Café is led by teens, for teens!

Today at Super STEAM Saturdays in the Broward County Library, our Jr. Engineers showcased their artist skills. 🎨

They combined art and electrical engineering by lighting up Playdoh! The Jr. Engineers learned that Playdoh is a salt based conductor and when connected to a battery, it can light up a LED.💡

We explored series and parallel circuits, insulators, & conductivity then used our knowledge to create a Playdoh sculpture and light it up!💡⚙️🔩

Great job future artist 🎨👏🏾🎉
