Behind the name:
The word crescendo is a musical term defined as a gradual increase in loudness or intensity. The name Crescendo developed out of our desire that all participants will
grow musically in a positive social environment. While everyone is musical, we are all in a different place on the continuum of musical ability and learn in our own unique way. Crescendo seeks to provide the opportunity for all who enjoy singing and expressing themselves musically to grow with the support of others. About the Directors:
Karen Gentry
Karen is a Miami native who has been a part of the musical community for more than thirty years. She received her Bachelor’s in Music Education from Florida State University in 1976 then went on to pursue a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at the University of Miami. Karen sang with the Greater Miami Opera (now Florida Grand Opera) from 1977-1981 before she began her teaching career. She has taught choruses of all ages in both private and public schools in Miami-Dade County and has taught private voice as well. She currently teaches music at Kings Christian School and is the Worship Coordinator and Choir Director at Southwest Community Church. Karen also enjoys singing with the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami and has been a member since 1989. Her love and passion for music is evident in her teaching as well as her daily life. Claire Gentry
Claire is a board-certified music therapist working in the Greater Miami area in private practice. She received her Bachelor’s in Music Therapy from Florida State University in 2010 and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Music Therapy from FSU. While in Tallahassee, Claire interned in the Leon County Public School system and worked with individuals of varying disabilities in a community chorus as well. In 2011, she took a job as a music therapist at United Cerebral Palsy of Miami where she started a chorus in the adult day program. Claire has also been a member of the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami and continues to perform locally as a singer-songwriter.
