Abraham Foundation, geared towards helping many of the 300,000 displaced people in Lebanon get back to their homes. The August 4th explosion turned Beirut’s port area and surroundings into rubble, displacing over 300,000 people. Buildings, once the heart of this lively city are empty, desolate, with their windows blasted inwards, tables upended, and furniture destroyed; the view is surreal. Our efforts are focused on providing the people of Beirut with the support they need to rebuild their homes.

What does it mean to be Lebanese-American?

Across generations, the answer keeps circling back to the same values: family, heritage, hard work, civic responsibility, and a deep bond with both countries. In reflections drawn from past ATFL Annual Dinners, Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Sara Ganim and former Lebanese Ambassador to the United States Antoine Chedid remind us that this identity is not split between two places — it is strengthened by both.

As Sara Ganim put it, "We do not wear our heritage on our sleeves, but it is who we are and it shapes what we do."

At HUR, we're proud to amplify the work of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL) as it marks a milestone: this September, the community comes together in Washington for ATFL's 40th Annual Dinner.

On August 20, Pope Leo XIV received Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at the Vatican, where talks centered on the path toward a just and lasting peace for Lebanon and the stabilization of its southern borders.

We share this moment because it speaks to something Lebanon has always carried — resilience, faith in the future, and an unbreakable will to endure.

On International Youth Day, we celebrate the young people of Lebanon — the students, volunteers, and innovators who choose to stay, to return, and to rebuild. They are not only Lebanon’s future; they are its present. Investing in them is the surest path to a rising Lebanon.

Cedar of Ours

“Six years ago, an August evening turned to fire. Today, we rise again.

I'm proud to share "Cedar of Ours" — a heartfelt tribute to our beloved homeland. It is a prayer and a promise: for the lives lost on August 4th, for the families still holding the line, and for a Lebanon of dignity, safety, and hope.

Red for the price our people paid. White for the peace we've prayed and prayed. Green for a hope that never dies — one flag, one flame, one Lebanon, one sky.

Let us light a candle for those who won't stand again, and lift our voices for the truth we're owed. On the fourth, together, we say our country's name.

GodSpeed our beloved Lebanon.”

When the road to southern Lebanon is dangerous, some choose to travel it anyway. On June 11, a convoy of 45 trucks led by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Paolo Borgia, together with Caritas and other Catholic organizations, carried food, medicine, and fuel toward the isolated villages of Debel, Ain Ebel, and Rmeich. Caught in crossfire and forced to reroute, the convoy pressed on — reaching Debel after a ten-hour journey. It was the twentieth such mission to the south since the war began. We share this story because it matters, and because presence, in the darkest moments, is its own form of hope.
