The Convair B-36 "Peacemaker" was a massive American strategic heavy bomber operated by the U.S. Air Force's Strategic Air Command from 1948 to 1959. It holds the distinction of being the largest mass-produced piston-engined aircraft ever built and possesses the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft in history at 230 feet (wider than a Boeing 747).
Conceived during World War II as a long-range contingency bomber, the B-36 went on to serve as the primary nuclear weapons delivery vehicle for the United States during the early years of the Cold War.
