This past weekend on May 16th, the MMIASU Court traveled to Casa Grande Union High School where they hosted their 12th Annual Graduation PowWow! It was truly such a pleasure and honor to meet, connect, and celebrate with the community. To be welcomed in such a beautiful way through the drums, songs, dancers, laughter, and the gathering of people was a blessing in itself. Moments like these are such powerful reminders of the strength, beauty, and resilience that continue to live within our Indigenous communities and traditions. Thank you for welcoming us with such kindness and warmth. We are deeply grateful to have shared space, stories, and good medicine together. Congratulations to all of the graduates, may this next chapter bring continued blessings, growth, and success on your journeys ahead.😊

Yá’át’ééh and Skeg Tas!

This weekend, members of the MMIASU Court attended the Annual MMIP Prayer Walk hosted by the Phoenix Indian Center and the F.I.N.A.L Youth Council. The morning began with youth leaders from the F.I.N.A.L Youth Council offering a prayer along with speeches about the impacts of the MMIP epidemic. It was amazing seeing our youth lead with passion and advocacy for their people. The MMIASU court were able to share a few words during this time about the importance of showing up for community and with each step in the walk we heal with good medicine and intention. Community members participated in a one mile walk filled with prayers, chants, and songs. It was an amazing and powerful morning seeing our community come together to honor and advocate for our relatives.

Today, May 5th, we honor and recognize National Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP) Awareness Day. Everyday, we remember our women, children, men, and two-spirit relatives. Today, we share their stories, experiences, and celebrate their lives as we continue to heal and grow together.

Thank you to the Phoenix Indian Center and F.I.N.A.L Youth Council for hosting this walk and providing a space for the community to share and embrace one another. Ahéhee’/ S’apo ❤️🪶

Yá’át’ééh!

This weekend I traveled to Tucson and had the honor of attending the 43rd Annual Miss Native American University of Arizona Pageant at the University of Arizona with the new addition of the Mr. Native American University of Arizona pageant. It was a beautiful afternoon witnessing each contestant represent their communities, tribes, and cultures with respect, pride, and grace.

This pageant was a historical moment as the court crowned their first Mr. Native American University of Arizona and Mr. Native American University of Arizona 1st Attendant. As well as crown the first Pascua Yaqui contestant to hold the title of Ms. Native American University of Arizona.

To the outgoing court, thank you for your dedication and passion in representing and advocating for the UofA Native student body. As a court you have displayed the importance of kinship and the resilience as Native Peoples. Ahéhee’ for your hard work and commitment to serving tribal communities.

To the newly crowned Ms. and Mr. Native American University of Arizona royalty court may your year be filled with continued blessings, new opportunities, and growth. We look forward to all the amazing things you’ll accomplish as a court and can’t wait to see you all at more events. Ahéhee’!

Skeg tas!

Today was a special day in that the youth council I am apart of, The Akimel O’odham/ Pee-Posh Youth Council, had the privilege of sharing prayers and songs at the 2026 American Indian Su***de Prevention Convening. As one of the first events for our court, it was really exciting to share this moment with my court as well as the youth from my community. I appreciate all the folks who came and shared community with us today and offered their stories. So grateful for today! Thank you to the Phoenix Indian Center and The Urban Indian Coalition of Arizona for having us.

Yá’át’ééh abiní!
The 2026-2027 MMIASU Court is so excited to announce the new Miss Indigenous ASU crown. This crown was beautifully made by Hannah Nockideneh, Ms. Indigenous ASU 2023-2024. We would like to thank Hannah for her craftsmanship and time in beading and creating this crown. This crown marks a new beginning for the court and is adorned with 4 flowers on both sides as well as a pitchfork. As the new Ms. Indigenous ASU, this warmed my heart and symbolized our incoming court and that we each shine through this crown and our titles. With this crown, we are excited to uphold our communities and represent the ASU Native student body with love and pride.
We look forward to all the opportunities in our path and the community and relatives we will meet this year. Ahé’hée!
