The power of community is incredible. ❤️
On October 29, Arizona's Family to the Homeless partnered with Genesis Project to host a community distribution event in Apache Junction. Together, we served 76 individuals, impacting an estimated 148 individuals and family members, and distributed 5,284 pounds of household goods, essential supplies, and Amazon return products.
Among those served, 40 individuals identified as currently experiencing homelessness, reminding us that the need for support continues to grow across our communities.
One conversation from the event has stayed with me. An elderly gentleman shared that, on his fixed income, the rising costs of rent, food, and everyday expenses have made it increasingly difficult to stay housed. He told me he is barely holding on. For neighbors like him, events such as these provide access to household items and essentials they might not otherwise be able to afford, helping stretch limited budgets a little further.
His story is also a reminder that we need more affordable housing, more shelter options, and more support for individuals and families who are struggling to remain stable. Homelessness is only part of the challenge. Many of our neighbors are living one unexpected expense away from a housing crisis.
