🌟 This Week's Member Spotlight: Tuscarora School District! 🌟

The Tuscarora School District serves the communities of Mercersburg Borough, Peters Township, Montgomery Township, St. Thomas Township, and Warren Township. Through its six schools, the district provides educational opportunities that prepare students for success in college, the workforce, military service, and beyond. The district's mission is to empower learners to pursue fulfilling, productive, and meaningful lives while building strong relationships among students, staff, and the community.

We are proud to have the Tuscarora School District as a member of the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce. As one of the largest employers in our region, the district provides hundreds of jobs and serves as a driving force in our local economy. Every year, graduates leave Tuscarora's classrooms and contribute to our communities as skilled workers, business owners, tradespeople, healthcare professionals, educators, and civic leaders.

The district is also home to exceptional educators whose impact extends far beyond the classroom. In 2025, Thomas Kriner was recognized as one of the TACC's Educators of the Year. A talented art teacher, publisher, and author, Mr. Kriner exemplifies the creativity and dedication found throughout the district. The year before, former Superintendent Rodney Benedick received the 2024 Educator of the Year award, showcasing the outstanding leadership and commitment to education that continues to shape the Tuscarora School District.

Beyond academics, Tuscarora students and staff contribute countless hours to athletics, arts programs, community service projects, and local partnerships. These efforts help strengthen the connection between our schools and the communities they serve.

📚 Kindergarten registration for the upcoming school year remains open for families with children who will be five years old on or before September 1. Parents can begin the enrollment process through the district's enrollment portal.

🌟 MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Mercersburg Academy🌟

This week, we're proud to highlight Chamber member Mercersburg Academy!

For more than 150 years, Mercersburg Academy has been an integral part of the Mercersburg community. Founded in 1865 and renamed Mercersburg Academy in 1893 by Headmaster William Mann Irvine, the school has grown into a world-renowned college preparatory institution while maintaining deep roots right here in our hometown.

Today, students from around the globe join local day students from South Central Pennsylvania to learn, grow, and thrive on the Academy's beautiful 300-acre campus. Faculty and staff from across the country—and many from our own community—help create a vibrant environment that makes Mercersburg a special place to live, learn, and work.

One of the most iconic landmarks in our region is the stunning Irvine Memorial Chapel, which towers above the town and serves as a gathering place for students, faculty, alumni, and visitors. The chapel is home to the Swoope Carillon, one of only a small number of traditional carillons in the United States. On many Sundays, the sound of the bells carries throughout the valley—a tradition cherished by generations of Mercersburg residents.

Beyond its educational mission, Mercersburg Academy plays a significant role in our local economy. Families visit throughout the year, faculty and staff establish roots in the area, and students support local businesses, restaurants, and recreational opportunities throughout the region.

We would also like to recognize Mr. Jim Malone, who recently completed his 46th year at the Academy and was honored as one of the Tuscarora Area Chamber of Commerce's 2025 Educators of the Year. His dedication reflects the excellence and commitment that have long been hallmarks of Mercersburg Academy.

We are grateful for Mercersburg Academy's partnership, leadership, and continued investment in our community.
