Donors to Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital Foundation were instrumental in helping to modernize and remodel the infusion room in the hospital’s Cancer Center.
The foundation committed $1.2 million in funding toward the project that created privacy for patients with 13 individual treatment bays and rooms, modernized the nursing workstation and added new bathrooms and exam rooms. The space also has new flooring and paint.
The overall cost of the project was $4 million.
“The remodel was designed with one goal in mind: creating an environment that better supports healing, comfort and patient dignity,” said Tina Curtis, vice president of the Cancer Service Line and Chief Nursing Officer for Ambulatory Services for Froedtert ThedaCare South Region. “This renovated infusion room provides a more welcoming and calming setting for patients, improves accommodations for families and caregivers and creates a space that better reflects the exceptional care delivered by our oncology team members every day.”
The foundation recently hosted an Open House of the newly remodeled area.
The Cancer Center is an important specialty service provided at Froedtert Menomonee Falls Hospital. Each year, the Cancer Center team cares for more than 4,800 patients and 1,100 of those patients are treated in the infusion room. These 1,100 patients account for more than 6,300 infusion visits.
“As cancer treatments continue to advance, more patients are receiving ongoing care in the outpatient setting. Many patients spend several hours at a time in our infusion room and will return week after week throughout their treatment,” Curtis said. “With growing demand and evolving patient needs, it became clear that our space needed to evolve as well.”
In addition to the infusion room, the radiation oncology area was also updated and refreshed. Three new clinic exams rooms were created in a former office space. These replaced two exam rooms lost during the infusion area renovation and resulted in a net gain of one exam room.
The dosimetry area was relocated and updated, a new office for Medical Director Monica Shukla, MD, was added, the team member break room received fresh paint and chairs and new offices were created for the medical and infusion managers, located adjacent to their respective departments.
Foundation funding for the project came from individual donors, corporate sponsors, team members and grateful patients who designated their gifts to the Cancer Center.
