Last weekend we did what scouts love the most, we spent the weekend out camping! They enjoyed fire building 🔥, fishing 🎣, rock climbing, tent set up races ⛺️ , wilderness first aid 🏥, night hikes and smores! And best of all, dishes 🍽 .... it's the funniest thing telling kids to share the dish washing duty-because they all want to do it!

For 100 years, Troop One Mendon has been building character, leadership, and lifelong friendships through the tradition of Scouting. From our first Eagle Scout in 1929 to our 106th Eagle Scout in 2026, generations of Scouts have answered the call to lead and serve our community with honor.

Some of our Cub Scouts and Scouts from Troop 1 had the opportunity to open the Mendon Town Meeting with the Pledge Of Allegiance. They practiced and did a fantastic job. As you can see in the 3rd picture, they took marching orders seriously- forward march....right into the wall 🤣

Some of our Cub Scouts partnered with girl scouts to help place flags on veterans graves at Lakeview cemetery in Upton. Great job scouts!

A few of our Cub Scouts helped out at Upton town meeting with leading the Pledge of Allegiance. They practiced marching together and did awesome. Even had special visit with Upton police k9!

Our Tiger Den(1st graders) had a special presentation from a retired Coast Gaurd Commander. Who better to teach kids about the importance of knots! They learned about knots for everyday use, boating knots, and some fun knots.

They practiced other knots to hoist a food bag high while camping--- to keep Yogi bear and boo boo from getting that picnic basket! 🐻 🧺

Did know fire fighters are trained to get into their gear in less than 1 minute? Did you know that the Mendon Fire Department responded to over 1100 calls in 2025?

The Mendon Upton Lion and Wolves Dens recently visited the Mendon Fire Department. Led by FF Darren Simpson, our scouts learned about the day to day responsibilities of our firefighters. We were able to tour the facility, see where the men and women of our fire department spend their time (when not helping the public) and we of course got to see all the trucks and some really cool equipment.
Our scouts asked some great questions and we learned about keeping ourselves safe in case of a fire. Lieutenant Nudd also talked to the scouts about how many of the scout laws apply to fire fighting- trustworthy, loyal, helpful, kind, etc., We may even have some future firefighters in our dens!
Thank you to Firefighter Darren, and Lieutenants Chris and Lenny for allowing our scouts to visit and see what life in the firehouse is like.
