Lady Wildcats Fall in Seven-Goal Thriller at LSU Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, La. – The Bethel Lady Wildcats battled LSU Alexandria to the final whistle Sunday but dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 decision at Generals Soccer Field.
Bethel took three separate leads or pulled even three times before the Generals scored the deciding goal late in the second half.
Tinotenda Taurai gave the Lady Wildcats a fast start, scoring off an assist from Jacqueline Carbajal in the eighth minute. The goal was Taurai’s second of the season.
LSUA answered in the 16th minute when Taylor Carty scored off a Paula Suarez assist, sending the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The Generals took their first lead just over a minute into the second half on a goal by Carolina Anjos Pereira.
Bethel responded in the 54th minute. Rose Boichat found the back of the net off an assist from Luiza Kilmeyers Rodrigues to tie the match at 2-2.
Suarez put LSUA back in front with a goal in the 57th minute, but the Lady Wildcats continued to battle.
Addison Schumacher converted a penalty kick in the 81st minute to pull Bethel even for the third time at 3-3. The tie was short-lived, however, as Nelly Dallmann answered with a penalty-kick goal in the 83rd minute to give the Generals the 4-3 victory.
LSUA finished with a 14-8 advantage in total shots and a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. Each team recorded four corner kicks.
Maria Carrico played the full 90 minutes in goal for Bethel and recorded three saves. Boichat led the Lady Wildcats with two shots on goal, while Taurai, Schumacher and Natasha Muchakati each placed one attempt on frame.
The Lady Wildcats moved to 0-2-1 on the season, while LSU Alexandria improved to 2-2.
