A Great Start to a Year of Leadership!

A few weeks ago, Youth Leadership Henry kicked off its 2026 program year with an inspiring keynote address from McDonough Mayor Kam Varner.

We thank Mayor for sharing her time, encouragement and valuable leadership insights with our students. We also appreciate the support of the as we prepare the next generation of community leaders.

Tomorrow, our class comes together for its first official program day: Teambuilding Day! Students will build connections, discover their strengths and begin developing leadership skills they'll carry throughout the year.

We're excited to watch this year's class grow, lead and make a lasting impact in our community!

What a great start to another year of Youth Leadership Henry! 🎉

Our kickoff night brought together an incredible group of students and families as we introduced this year’s class to the YLH experience. The energy in the room, the conversations, and the excitement for what’s ahead made for a fantastic evening.

We’re looking forward to a year of new experiences, meaningful connections, and plenty of opportunities for these young leaders to grow, learn, and make an impact across Henry County.

And just like that, YLH is underway! 🚀

While our Selections Committee is busy reviewing the applications we received this year we thought we would take time to share some important information! 😃

Did you know that…

* We received 119 applications this year! 🎉

* Our selections process is completely blind…all identifying information is scrubbed before being sent to the Selections Committee and students are only scored on the answers given to the application questions 🌟

* YLH is open to sophomores in Henry County Public Schools as well as private schools and homeschool students 📚

* Each year our class is made up of approximately 35 students 😃

* The YLH board is entirely a volunteer board and each board member is passionate about developing the next generation of leaders in our community ♥️

* We cannot wait to meet our next class of leaders!! Stay tuned for an announcement soon! 🎉
