The Speedy Memorial Foundation's mission is to provide the children of Law Enforcement Officers in the Rio Grande Valley with academic scholarships. The Foundation was built upon the mantra: Honor, Integrity, Service; which will continue Speedy's legacy of education and love of his community.

💙 As we wrap up our 2026 Speedy Scholarship season, we want to take a moment to thank everyone who has supported our mission.

Last night, we proudly awarded $39,000 in academic scholarships to 39 outstanding Speedy Scholars—the children of law enforcement officers from across the Rio Grande Valley.

Because of your generosity, the Speedy Memorial Foundation has now awarded $190,000 in scholarships since 2020.

Every Speedy 5k registration, sponsorship, donation, volunteer hour, and share has helped make this possible. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us honor the legacy of Corporal Jose Luis "Speedy" Espericueta Jr.

✨🎓Congratulations to Our 2026 Speedy Scholars! 💙

We are incredibly proud to announce that 39 outstanding students have been selected as our 2026 Speedy Scholars! Each recipient will receive a $1,000 scholarship, for a total of $39,000 to be awarded at our upcoming 7th Annual Speedy Scholarship Awards Ceremony.

This year's recipients represent the hard work, dedication, and bright futures of the children of law enforcement officers throughout the Rio Grande Valley. We are honored to support their educational journeys while continuing to honor the legacy of Corporal Jose Luis "Speedy" Espericueta Jr.

🎉💙 $50,138.18 for the Speedy Memorial Foundation! 💙🎉 The legacy of Cpl. Joey "Speedy" lives on!

Sole Racing presented the Speedy Memorial Foundation with a check for $50,138.18 from the 7th Annual Speedy 5K!

Thank you to everyone who made this incredible event possible—our participants, sponsors, volunteers, supporters, and our amazing community!

A special thank you to our valued community partners—the City of Mission (parks, streets..) and our incredible first responder team: Mission Police, Mission Fire Department, Pharr Fire Department, Texas Department of Public Safety - South Texas Region, Hidalgo County Constable Pct.3, Alton Police Department, US Border Patrol RGV Sector and Thin Blue Line RGV. Your support, dedication, and presence helped make this year's event a tremendous success, and we are truly grateful.

Within the last 24 hours, Texas has lost two heroes in duty-related vehicle incidents.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Mabank Fire Department and to the family of Charlie Woodard.

Mabank Fire Chief Charlie Woodard, who also served as a police officer, was tragically struck and killed overnight while directing traffic.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his department, and every first responder still working our roads tonight. 🙏❤️💙

💙 End of Watch

The Speedy Memorial Foundation extends our deepest condolences to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office as they mourn the loss of Deputy Erika Serrato, who was killed in the line of duty overnight after being struck by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of a crash.

Deputy Serrato was 24 years old and served with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office for six years, beginning as a detention officer before joining patrol approximately six months ago.

We extend our deepest prayers and sympathy to her loved ones and to the entire Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office during this difficult time.

🖤💙 In Loving Memory of Corporal Jose Luis “Speedy” Espericueta Jr.💙🖤

On June 20, 2019, Corporal Jose Luis “Speedy” Espericueta Jr. of the Mission Police Department made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. He faced an armed suspect with courage and bravery and did not hesitate to put himself in harm's way to protect the community he loved. Through his selfless actions, he helped save countless lives.

Today, we remember and honor Speedy, a hero in every sense of the word. He dedicated his life to serving and protecting others and made the ultimate sacrifice while doing so.

While our community lost a dedicated officer, his wife lost her husband, and his two children lost their father. Not a day goes by that he is not loved, missed, and remembered. His memory lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, fellow officers, and all those whose lives he touched.

Through the Speedy Memorial Foundation, we are blessed to continue bringing people together in his honor and making a positive impact in our community. Because of your support, we are able to carry on his legacy of service, compassion, and giving back.

To everyone who has supported the Speedy Memorial Foundation, and to all those we have met along the way—thank you. There are not enough words to express our gratitude. We appreciate each and every one of you.

The Speedy Memorial Foundation extends our deepest condolences to the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol as they mourn the tragic loss of Trooper Sergio Romero.

Trooper Romero was killed in the line of duty yesterday near Childress, Texas, in a tragic vehicle collision.

Trooper Romero was a graduate of DPS Recruit Class B-2025 and served the people of Texas with honor, courage, and dedication.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, loved ones, and the entire Texas Department of Public Safety family during this difficult time.
