Altered Tails Project

Altered Tails Project 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on spay, neuter, & TNR (trap, neuter, return) in the Stark County, Ohio area.

The mission of Altered Tails Project is to provide financial assistance for the spaying/neutering of companion animals and free-roaming cats. Our vision is to reduce the number of homeless animals entering our local shelters and ensure the best health of those within homes. We have partnered with local spay/neuter clinics to offer these services at a deeply discounted cost.

Two weeks ago, I truly thought I was going to lose him. He was so sick with calicivirus —struggling to breathe, eyes swollen shut, and barely hanging on. For days, I syringe-fed him to keep his tiny body going and hoped he would find the strength to fight.

Today, Tiki is a healthy, happy little boy and absolutely perfect. 💙

Rescue is exhausting. It can be heartbreaking, overwhelming, and emotionally draining. But moments like this make every sleepless night and every worry worth it.

Tiki and his siblings will soon be transferring to a receiving rescue where they’ll complete their vetting and begin the next chapter of their journey—finding the loving forever homes they deserve. 🐾

Last night after 9 PM, a caregiver we’ve helped with TNR in Wilmot reached out to me in a panic, begging me to call her. She had just witnessed an absolutely heartbreaking and traumatic situation involving one of her TNR kitties, Teddy. A possum had attacked her, and she was suffering terribly. I advised the caregiver to rush Teddy to the ER vet so she could be humanely euthanized and no longer be in pain.

I was honestly shocked — I’ve never heard of a possum acting aggressively like this before. My heart breaks not only for sweet Teddy, but also for the caregiver who had to witness something so devastating. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she tries to heal from this traumatic experience. 🖤

If anyone would like to help with Teddy’s emergency vet bill, we would be incredibly grateful.

Placed two unsocialized FIXED kitties into a safe barn home today 🐾

A proper acclimation period is so important for their safety and success. That means keeping them in a sturdy, secure enclosure inside a barn or comparable structure for 4–6 weeks while they adjust to their new environment.

During this time, they must have:
• A sturdy, safe enclosure inside a barn or similar space
• An enclosed hiding house within the crate to help them feel safe
• Litter box
• Consistent food & fresh water

(Example of a proper setup pictured 👇)

Huge thank you to everyone who opens their barns and hearts to these cats—giving them a safe place to land truly makes a difference. We appreciate you more than you know ❤️

THANK YOU to every single person who showed up to help me help these cats this week ❤️

We were able to successfully TNR 11 cats from the Navarre project—6 of them were pregnant females. That means we prevented so much suffering for countless unborn kittens, and I’m incredibly grateful.

There are still 8 cats left that need to be TNR’d, so I’ll be back at it in a couple of weeks once I’m trapping again.
