Normandy Invasion
World War II
Also known as: COSSAC, D-Day, Operation Overlord
Normandy Invasion, during World War II, the Allied invasion of western Europe, which was launched on June 6, 1944 (the most celebrated D-Day of the war), with the simultaneous landing of U.S., British, and Canadian forces on five separate beachheads in Normandy, France. By the end of August 1944 all of northern France was liberated, and the invading forces reorganized for the drive into Germany, where they would eventually meet with Soviet forces advancing from the east to bring an end to the N**i Reich.

From SFC Matthew McClintock's Father:
Good morning, Steve, Diane and all the Supporters,
"Thank you for sharing this.
It is very humbling to hear my son's name mentioned and honored by the President of the United States.
Now, this nation has heard the name of my hero, SFC Matthew McClintock.
respectfully,
Sonny"
"Thought I would share this photo. It is allegedly the last one of him alive."

Supporters of the Mason County Veterans Memorial, in his Memorial Day address, the President of the United States spoke about the heroism of Sergeant First Class Matthew McClintock, a Green Beret who served in Afghanistan (see the video clip and the attached photo of his headstone at Arlington). As you know, Matthew is honored at our Veterans Memorial. His sacrifice, along with that of all the men and women veterans who gave their lives, is the reason we observe Memorial Day. Thank you, Steve Halstead
