Saturday, December 13th, 2025

Meigs County Sheriff Scott Fitch has issued a Level 2 Snow Emergency for Meigs County.

Level 2 Snow Emergency: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads.
Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.

Special thanks to the K9 Search & Rescue Services of West Virginia Inc. for speaking at our monthly meeting last night. We appreciate them taking time out of their day to discuss their mission and how they can help first responders.

Also discussed were upcoming meetings and a $500 donation was given to buy coats for preschool students.

🚨🚨 MEETING REMINDER 🚨🚨

The Meigs County Firefighter's Association will meet this Tuesday evening, December 9th, 2025, at the Middleport Fire Department. The meeting begins at 7:30pm, with dinner served at 7pm. This month we will have a guest speaker from the West Virginia K9 Search and Rescue team. The information for the meeting location is as follows:

We will conduct our monthly 50/50 drawing with chances 1-$1 or 6-$5.

🚒 VFA Grant Applications Now Open!
The application period for ODNR Forestry’s Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grant Program is officially open now through January 15, 2026.
If your fire department is located within the shaded counties on the map, you may qualify for VFA funding. This 50/50 cost-share grant helps rural fire departments acquire essential wildland fire tools and equipment, including:
• UTVs/ATVs and wildfire slip-in units
• Wildland PPE
• MARCS communication devices
• Other equipment that supports fire department development
🏆 Maximum grant award: $10,000
