March 31st marks 17 years of Transgender Day of Visibility; it started with one person, Rachel Crandall-Crocker, making the brave step of organizing an event just outside of Detroit in 2009. Now TDOV is recognized on a international level!

Now, not everyone has the ability to make such a huge change in the world, so how can we all be better allies and support our family and friends?

It's easy:
🩵 Learn more about local volunteer opportunities, such as with the Salus Center in Lansing or Transgender Michigan;
🩷 Speak up for those who can't speak for themselves;
🤍 Respect a person's pronouns and chosen name;
🩷 Be willing to show your support publicly;
🩵 Practice using inclusive language.

The 100th anniversary of Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to make a commitment to truth and equity all year long; by making space for Black voices, putting in the effort to learn the history of those that came before us, and supporting your community through action (big and small!).

Topics of note include Resolution 2026-07: public infrastructure improvements, and receipt of legal opinion regarding giving name and address for public comment.

The Children’s Cultural Concert Series returns this Saturday, Feb. 14! The events are free and open to all community members.

The first performance will feature the Greater Lansing Area Ballet Folklorico. The GLA Ballet Folklorico celebrates the rich heritage of Hispanic culture through the vibrant art of Mexican Folklorico dance. Through lively and dynamic classes, they explore the diverse dance styles from each region of Mexico, offering a hands-on experience in understanding the cultural significance behind each step.

All performances will be held from 11 a.m.-noon at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center, 819 Abbot Road, with a special library story time before each concert that begins at 10:45 a.m.

Join our February Out & About Families meetup - a Valentines Day party featuring a singalong, heart-themed crafts and snacks, and community!

Meet up with other 2SLGBTQIA+ families and allies each month to play and foster community together.

This is a social space for families of all kinds. Folks attending our family and youth support groups are especially encouraged to attend!

Snacks and a kid-friendly activity provided. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Part of the Salus Center community, Out & About Families offers a welcoming and inclusive space where families of all kinds in Greater Lansing can connect, share experiences, and celebrate visibility and belonging together.

$10 donation to Salus Center per family encouraged but not required.
