Lower Cape Kiwanis Club and the Monomoy Regional High School Key, which the Lower Cape Kiwanis Club is the sponsor, are community service organizations with the mission of supporting youth in our communities. The Key Club is the teen division of the Kiwanis Family of community service organizations. At the end of April Kiwanis and the Key Club are jointly sponsoring a fundraising run in Harwich around the West Reservoir and over the fish ladder for the annual herring run, thus the name of the event " The Harwich Herring Run".
The date of the run is Sunday, April 26 at 9am. The starting line for the run will be on the Bicycle Trail east of Depot St. The registration area will be at 501 Depot St., the parking lot of Black Oak Oysters. The course runs south through the old bogs owned by the Harwich Conservation Trust, east across the Herring Run skirting the south side of west reservoir, north on Bell's Neck Rd. And east back to the finish on trails on the north side of the reservoir to the finish line on the bike trail.
Funds raised by the event will be split between the two organizations. The Kiwanis Club will use its portion to add to our annual scholarship awards to graduating high schoolers. The Key Club has decided to donate its funds to the Dream Day Camp on Cape Cod Program in Brewster. Dream Day Camp runs a facility adjacent to Nickerson State Park which provides a week long family camping experience for families with a disabled and/or terminally ill child. Each family has a cabin to stay in, meals are provided at a common dining facility, and there is a play area, swimming pond and canoes, a playing field and trials to hike.
The specific intent of the Key Club's donation will be to help replace some of the old, worn out and no longer to standard play equipment. Much of the equipment has not been up-dated to accommodate the disabled campers. Over the years, the cabins, the dining commons and other facilities have been built by Cape Cod's various Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs. In the spring and fall the youth organizations from Monomoy, Nauset and Cape Cod Tech organize work days to help get the camp ready for camp season and ready to close up for winter.
To help with these efforts we are asking folks and businesses to be sponsors to help cover the costs of putting on the event. Those who sponsor the event will get noted in the publicity for the event and have their logo printed on the event tee shirt. Payments will be made to the Lower Cape Kiwanis Fund, a tax exempt 501c3 organization.
Sponsorships can be made at the following levels: $500, $200, $100. Level of sponsorship will determine size and position of logo. You will need to submit a digital file of your logo to [email protected]. For any question call Ed McManus at 508-527-7620.
