Beautiful day to be pulling chairs, oiling haul rope, and getting ready for our annual lift inspections and maintenance.

Many people may not realize that every year our lifts go through an extensive series of preventative maintenance and inspections to ensure they are ready for another winter season.

Part of that process is NDT, or Non-Destructive Testing. During this inspection, we remove 20% of our chairs and grips (the piece that attach the chairs to the rope) and have them X-rayed and inspected for any hidden cracks, defects, or structural concerns. This allows us to verify the integrity of the components without damaging them.

We're also excited to be getting this work done early this summer. Once the annual maintenance is complete, we'll be able to turn our attention toward several projects aimed at continuing to improve and progress Big Rock forward.

The work never really stops, but on a sunny day like today, there are certainly worse places to be. ☀️

Saying goodbye to winter one last time: packing up the many pads across the hill… tower, pole, and hydrant pads.

The ducks are back! This morning, a pair of mallards were swimming in our snow-making pond, a clear sign that spring has arrived. They always seem to enjoy the fresh mountain water that gets reclaimed from melting snow.

Please help us protect the mountain by keeping vehicles off the ski area. We’ve seen an increase in vehicle traffic on the hill, and it creates safety concerns while also damaging the terrain we work hard to maintain.

We love seeing people enjoy the mountain. If you’re looking to hike up for a sunrise or spend time on the Appalachian Trail, you’re always welcome. But vehicles on the slopes leave ruts that our crew must repair: adding to an already busy off-season getting the ski area in tiptop shape.

We know everyone is eager for ATV trails to open. We are too. Until then, we appreciate your help in keeping Big Rock in great shape for next season.

At Slush Rush this season we wanted to try something different. So we had a judges table at the pond and anyone who wanted to participate, could. They were scored based on Style/Tricks, Outfits, Water Skiing, and Biggest Splash. We even had a couple of our participants soak the judges as they skied by! Here are some pictures of a few of our winners receiving their prizes😁
