🤠🖤🐾 MEET ROWDY — AND WE COULD REALLY USE YOUR HELP! 🐾🖤🤠
Everybody, meet the newest boy in the Pawsitive Hearts of Perry County family — Rowdy!
And yes, there’s a reason for the name! 😁 We named him after Rowdy Yates, Clint Eastwood’s character in Rawhide. 🤠 We think it fits this handsome fella perfectly!
Rowdy had his first vet visit today, and now we know a lot more about this sweet boy and what he’s going to need.
Rowdy is an approximately 8-year-old, 82.6-pound Great Pyrenees mix, and despite everything he has going on, he was bright, alert and responsive during his exam. ❤️
Unfortunately, his testing also gave us some news we weren’t hoping for.
🪱 Rowdy is HEARTWORM POSITIVE.
He also tested positive for Ehrlichia, a tick-borne disease, and his f***l test showed hookworms.
The good news is that his lungs sounded good with no respiratory distress, his heart had a regular rhythm with no murmur heard, and he tested negative for Lyme disease and Anaplasma. 🙏❤️
So now we have a plan to get this handsome cowboy feeling his best. 🤠
💊 Rowdy has started doxycycline once daily for 30 days. This will help treat the Ehrlichia and is also part of the plan leading up to his heartworm treatment.
🪱 He’s also receiving a 3-day deworming treatment for the hookworms.
💉 Today he received his rabies vaccine, DAPP + Lepto vaccine, and Bordetella/kennel cough vaccine.
After he finishes his 30 days of doxycycline, Rowdy will return to the vet for a recheck, and we’ll determine the next steps for his heartworm treatment.
His veterinarian also explained that with the heat we’re having right now, this isn’t the time to put him through heartworm treatment. For now, we’re going to follow the vet’s plan, get the Ehrlichia and hookworms taken care of, let the doxycycline do its job, and take this journey one step at a time. ❤️
🐾❤️ AND WHAT ABOUT ADOPTION? ❤️🐾
Rowdy isn’t quite ready to start looking for his forever family yet. Right now, his health comes first.
He’ll complete his 30 days of antibiotics and then return to the vet for his recheck. Once we know how he’s doing and we’re comfortable that he’s medically ready for the next step, Rowdy will become available for adoption. 🖤
And you can bet we’ll make a BIG announcement when this handsome cowboy is officially ready to start looking for his forever home! 🤠❤️
Now for the part where we need your help.
Today’s veterinary visit alone was $251.10.
That covered his physical exam, heartworm/tick-borne disease testing, f***l testing, vaccines, doxycycline and dewormer.
And unfortunately, today is only the beginning of Rowdy’s medical expenses.
He still has his recheck, continued veterinary care and, most importantly, heartworm treatment ahead of him.
For a small rescue like ours, unexpected medical cases can add up very quickly. But when an animal needs us, we want to be able to say YES. ❤️
So we’re asking our Pawsitive Hearts family to help us help Rowdy.
🐾 If you would like to donate toward Rowdy’s veterinary care, every single dollar will help.
$5 helps.
$10 helps.
$20 helps.
It ALL adds up.
And if you aren’t able to donate right now, please SHARE ROWDY’S POST! Sharing costs absolutely nothing, but it can help us reach someone who can donate and help us get this handsome cowboy healthy and ready for the forever family waiting somewhere down the road. 🤠🖤
We’ll continue sharing updates throughout Rowdy’s treatment so everyone who helps him can follow his journey.
For now…
🖤 He’s safe.
🐾 He’s being loved.
💊 He’s getting the medical care he needs.
❤️ He has a rescue standing behind him.
🤠 And he has a whole new chapter ahead of him.
Welcome to Pawsitive Hearts, Rowdy! 🖤🐾
“Head ’em up, move ’em out!” 🤠😂❤️
