A little math, a little digging, and plenty of learning! 🌱🧄

On October 15, Westall Elementary students welcomed BayCoast Bank’s leadership team and our Executive Director, Liz Wiley, for their second Grow Education garden workshop of the year.

Students cleared beds, collected soil samples for lab testing, and put their math skills to work using posts and string to create a planting array for garlic. One group also harvested beets before sprinkling a mix of peas, oats, and vetch cover crop seeds to help enrich and protect the soil during its winter nap.

Thank you to BayCoast Bank for supporting Grow Education in Fall River and helping students connect classroom learning with hands-on experiences in the garden!

🌱 1,960 pounds and growing!

This growing season, Grow Education gardens have produced 1,960 pounds of fresh produce across schools throughout the South Coast.

Every tomato, beet, cucumber, and bunch of kale represents more than a harvest—it represents hands-on learning, healthy habits, and a stronger connection to local food systems. Throughout the school year, students help plant, care for, and learn from these gardens, while the produce is shared through classroom taste tests and donated to community members.
