Phenology Friday: Migration continues with birds like the Yellow Rumped Warblers. These are the birds of the northern woods' summer and some stay with us, while others continue on to the middle of the US. Their view of time and seasons add to our narrower view. Slightly Spooky Story Time

Celebrate the evening with a walk to a slightly spooky story time at Osprey Marsh.

Bring your little goblins and ghouls to a fun but slightly spooky story time, featuring SLT Board member and tale-weaving Chris Burdick among others.

We will have a contained fire by the pavilion. Afterwards, we may go for a quiet walk in the dark woods for those who want to join us.

This event is tentative as we watch for weather and mosquitos. If you sign-up and there is a change to this event, you will be notified by email or with a phone call

Calling all Adventure dawgs! Join Tadhg Irving from OutHounds Adventure & Training Academy for a monthly walk at White Eagle on the third Saturday of the month. Depending upon the weather, the walk will be 2-5 miles. We will all have leashes, but please bring our own p**p bags and WEAR ORANGE as we are in bow hunting season.

Phenology Friday
Color all around this week. The wet weather caused many mushrooms to flush one more time. While fall is just starting there are plenty of leaves changing and trails to walk along.

Get out wisely. New Bedford science cafe reminded us of Blake Dinius’s engaging Tick Talk.

In the fall there is an “uptick” in ticks looking for one last blood meal so they can breed before the winter. It’s still important to get out - just remember precautions. Protect yourself with checks and spray.

Phenology Friday! Turn and face the ch...ch...changes. We've seen some mushrooms popping out after last week's rain. And just some hints of color in the poison ivy and black Tupelo. Plenty of other leaves are just starting to show their colors.

What are you seeing? Any predictions for the fall color? How many sunny fall days will we have to explore this color?

Hey you! A reminder that it’s hunting season soon. We have a small group of permitted hunters for Aucoot Woods (white eagle and surrounding parcels) but hunters may be on nearby properties. All hikers should wear orange from Oct 5th to the end of January this year. Currently no hunting on Sundays in Massachusetts.

Funky Phenology Friday! Probably not too many people planning a walk but when you look at the leaves (particularly oaks) that get blown off this weekend note some of the galls hanging out there. Often eggs of insects that feed our birds they are a way for a population to make it to the other side of winter. There's a movement to leave the leaves, or at least rake them intact in the undergrowth. Look and see the wild variety of galls on one tree.
What are you seeing during this early fall?
