Phenology Friday!
A wonderful article by Grace Roche about Iain McManus’s Eagle “Picture Post” scout project. (See the comments for the link) The posts at Brainard Marsh, Osprey Marsh and White Eagle allow you to take pictures at the exact same spot, facing the same way. There are directions and links to share your images with the SLT, and we hope to post some of the first season soon.

Phenology Friday!
What are you seeing?

Summer is sliding down from its peak. Blueberries peaked this week along the path at Aucoot Woods this week. Still a few for blue berries for walkers and birds. We send our annual reminder to students and teachers:

“Many a forenoon have I stolen away, preferring to spend thus the most valued part of the day; for I was rich, if not in money, in sunny hours and summer days, and spent them lavishly; nor do I regret that I did not waste more of them in the workshop or the teacher's desk". Thoreau from “Walden”

Terrapin Program with Deb Ewing
📅 Sunday, August 16th
🕗 10:30 AM
📍 TBA after registration

Come explore how volunteers are giving a leg up to the local Diamondback Terrapin.

The salt marsh and estuary dwelling species is listed as "threatened" in Massachusetts. It appears to be coming back from near extirpation due to incidental take in traps, loss of habitat and other threats. Deb Ewing, the SLT's Board Clerk and dedicated local volunteer, will introduce us to the efforts to protect the species, included an area of protected nests called the "Turtle Garden." With all the NECWA volunteers, interns and the local residents there has been monitoring and protection of these nests for 11 years. Depending upon weather (and a little luck), we may be able to see hatchlings.

Limited to 15 people. You must sign up at the events page of our website and you will be given directions on where to park and meet for the program.

Phenology Friday! Dear Khaleesi - your dragons await. Peak summer and many dragonflies are out.and hunting along the paths. When they were young nymphs they preyed on mosquitoes larva, now they wing through the summer heat smiting mosquitoes and flies. Visit your dragons at wet areas like White Eagle bog.
