On July 1, 2025 the Mapleton Sertoma Club dedicated a metal plaque on the beautiful new railing at the Mapleton Community Center to Louise “Wheezy” Webb. Louise was a wonderful community servant who helped people as a Sertoman and as a member of the Maple River Youth Center. No matter what your age, Louise “Wheezy” Webb would be there to make life better for whoever she encountered. The railing has made entering and leaving the Mapleton Community Center safer especially in inclement weather months. Eric Wasmund, who is a native of Mapleton and grandson of Mary Tichenor, offered to build the new railing, refusing to charge any labor cost because it was a way for him to give back to the city that helped raise him. The material cost of the new railing was covered by the Mapleton Sertoma Club and the city of Mapleton. Pictured left to right are Jeff Annis, Mayor of Mapleton, Eric Wasmund, the railing builder, and Dan Kraft, Sertoma Club President.

This morning's Sertoma meeting featured several notable events. We honored seniors who received scholarships, including Ava Stencel, who was awarded the $2,000 Sy Gau scholarship, and Olivia Anderson, who received a $750 Merit Scholarship, presented by Carol Stevenson from the Sy Gau Scholarship Committee. Additionally, Jim Swanson presented four Serteens with a $500 scholarship from Mapleton Sertoma, which was awarded to Kalyn Sandmeyer, Lexey Ertman, Olivia Anderson, and Wyatt Birr. We also made a donation of various items to Camp Sertoma, a camp for deaf and hard-of-hearing children, to Larry Wild “Lars”, a member of the Greater Mankato Sertoma Club and Camp Sertoma representative. The meeting concluded with Steve Berkeland, Mapleton Sertoma's current president, passing the gavel to incoming President Dan Kraft.
