UPDATE: KIMMY

Kimmy came to us with a disfigured leg from the shelter. After X-rays and consults - it became obvious that corrective surgery was not an option. Some trauma had pulled her leg from the hip socket and twisted, her knee was facing backward and healed in such a way that there was no bend, she had nerve damage. During surgery - amputation was planned but complicated by twisted ligaments and blood sources. She had a 'all clear' exam today after also going through a separate spay surgery.

Dr. Lang and Dr. Doucet at Alvin-Friendswood Veterinary Clinic provided a discounted invoice of $1500.00 for everything! [repeated X-rays, RXs, Amputation and Post-Op care]

Eggnog is sleeping deeply tonight in a foster after being found abandoned in Brazoria County. When a Deputy offered to foster - we agreed to give this guy a second chance. He is severely underweight, open wound on his neck and cloudy eyes.

We are praying that after many many small meals of Quality food - some supplements, more naps and some Cuddles; Eggnog will be a thick, velvety, spicy Bulldog ready for the Holidays.🎄

Last week we meet at-risk dogs in shelters in and around Houston. Volunteers asked us to consider Hugo at Harris County Pets. His medical records suggested a major medical need and we were not prepared financially for another emergency vet visit. Then we met him! We melted. 𝖢𝗁ɑ𝗋ოꪱᜒ𐓣𝗀, 𝖸𝗈υ𐓣𝗀 ɑ𐓣ᑯ 𝖧ɑ𐓣ᑯડ𝗈ო౿

He was on the euthanasia list for that day. ⌛️

Hugo went to see our Vet for an Upper Raspatory Infection and review of his X-rays. He just needed antibiotics, heartworm prevention (testing negative!) and now has his neuter scheduled.

UPDATE ON ELMO

He is eating, taking lots of pills to battle the infection in his leg, swelling, pain and heartworms. He loves his XL orthopedic dog bed gifted from Huxley and his foster mom Connie. Thank you to Aimee, Connie, Nancy, Justin & Jamie for sending Amazon Wishlist items.

UPDATE 09-30-2026

🩻 Pre-Op workup with radiographs showed disintegrating bone on the head of the Tibia (Osteoporosis) which makes a TPLO not possible. Diagnostic steps were taken and the osteoporosis is localized, a full leg amputation is now recommended. Elmo already walks holding up the leg so the dog will be unbothered as a tripod.

Additional medications and supplements have been added to his daily intake, he will go home to recoup -eat, strengthen and prepare for next steps. He is still eligible for heartworm treatment and will be neutered/treated in preparation for adoption. His medical history will be a concern but he wants to be part of a family and deserves to have one.

𝕌ℝ𝔾𝔼ℕ𝕋 𝕄𝔼𝔻𝕀ℂ𝔸𝕃 ℝ𝔼𝕊ℂ𝕌𝔼 from Harris County has TLPO Surgery scheduled at Alvin-Friendswood Veterinary Clinic with Dr. Doucet on September 30th! This will save the leg and give a YOUNG, Gentle and Sweet Doberman his FULL Life back. He should be 95 lbs when healthy - right now his spine, pelvis and ribs are poking out.
