Hi everyone! After weeks of fighting with our insurance company and the drug manufacturers, we have arrived at our last resort and are recirculating our GoFundMe with a new goal attached to it.
To provide some background, Bram's diagnosis of metastatic Ewing Sarcoma carries a very high chance of relapse, and is much more difficult to beat a second or third time. While we are so grateful and amazed that he has achieved a first remission, our new goal is to keep him cancer-free in the long-term. If he can stay cancer-free for five years, then he will be considered "cured."
In order to improve his odds, we have been working with Dr. Sholler at Penn State Hershey to test cells from Bram's initial tumors. Dr. Sholler's team identified two drugs that would significantly improve the effectiveness of his remaining chemo (six more cycles) and help ensure that no straggling cancer cells remain.
Unfortunately, we have exhausted all efforts to get these drugs covered without paying out of pocket. Our insurance refuses to cover them and the manufacturers can't give them to us for free because we technically have insurance (and we can't give up our insurance because it is still paying for chemo and radiation).
We hesitate to even put this out there because we have already received so, so much generosity and kindness from our community. However, we have to do everything we can to prevent a recurrence, and this is our Hail Mary pass.
