The Manning Times is kicking off its award-winning CCSD Teachers of the Year series with Takelia Hammett, an interventionist at Dr. Rose H. Wilder Elementary School.

Hammett once found the responsibility of teaching intimidating, but she eventually found her calling in helping students grow, build confidence and find their voices.

Wilder’s motto is “Hard work pays off,” and for Hammett, being selected as Teacher of the Year by her peers has given those words even more meaning.

“It has proven to be true,” Hammett said. “Hard work does pay off.”
