Trash Tip Thursday: Recycling Plastic Bags

Plastic bags remain the number one contaminant in curbside recycling containers. Bags and other film plastics can wrap around sorting machinery and cause damage to recycling systems. Bring your clean plastic bags to a drop-off location at a big box store to be recycled! For more information on common recycling contaminants, visit: https://ow.ly/UQfc50YWyZf

There are simple ways to dispose of the most common plastics and make a difference.

Trash Tip Thursday: What plastics can go in my cart?

In Minnesota, plastics labeled #1, 2, or 5 can be placed in your curbside recycling container. Other plastics, like bags and films, may be recycled through programs offered at grocery or big box stores, or through other specialized programs. Visit https://ow.ly/NzPR50YWyWY for more details on plastic recycling.

Mankato Area Zero Waste has received a $500 grant from the Mankato Clinic Foundation that will be used for our Rigid Styrofoam Reycling event on May 30, from 9 am to 1 pm. With this event we can share information about the problems of eating or drinking from Styrofoam and see that its rigid form actually gets recycled rather than creating climate and health problems.* Another big THANKS to Mayflower Kato Moving and Storage for providing a semi-truck, driver and a place for our event at 417 Poplar in Mankato. Couldn't do this without these good people &Storage
*Note: With curbside collection, Styrofoam must go into a trash cart and cannot be put into recycling. Also--you do not need to live in Mankato to recycle your Styrofoam. All are welcome!
