American Legion Post 208 Manchester,MO American Legion Post 208 in Manchester,MO. The men were approached by Mr. Ben Feldman about the possibility of forming an American Legion post. Walter H. Sgt.

Manchester American Legion Walter LePere Post 208 On a day in 1919, some local veterans gathered to rehash their experiences at Straszer’s ice cream parlor in the old Lyceum building in Manchester, Missouri. The men agreed, and since it was Mr. Feldman’s idea, it fell upon him to do some research as to how this might be accomplished. As a result, American Legion Post 208 was chartered on December

16, 1919 with 15 charter members. The Post was soon named after Sgt. LePere, USMC. Fourteen men had left for war from Manchester, and only thirteen returned. LePere was killed at the Battle of Mont Blanc Ridge on October 10, 1919, one month and one day before the end of the war. He is buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in France. A Post Auxiliary was organized in April of 1921. The Post Sons of the American Legion was chartered in 1997, and the Post American Legion Riders were established in 2011. The old Lyceum building where Post 208 was born is now the City Hall of the City of Manchester. Over the past 94 years Post 208 has grown from the original 15 members to 388 members, and has served both veterans and the City of Manchester with distinction and honor. Post 208 is looking forward to celebrating its100 years of service in the year 2019.
