The Florida State Conference of the NAACP was the first state conference in the nation under the leadership of Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore. We recently had an opportunity to join them as they celebrated 85 years of service and civil rights at their annual Freedom Fund Gala. Congrats to all the honorees who continue to move justice forward!

Black voters already oppose Amendment 3 at higher rates than any other group. Senator Jones and other leaders are making their way across the state to have important conversations with voters about how Amendment 3 is a tax shift not a tax cut. We will experience cuts to services and increase costs, especially for working Floridians, renters, and disproportionately communities of color.

Voters must vote No on Amendment 3 on November 3rd.

Genesis Robinson, the executive director of the Equal Ground Education Fund, said Mack’s directive was part of a “continued culture war” being waged by Florida’s leadership against marginalized communities.

“It is a total censorship of what our young people are able to be exposed to here in a state that they purport to be free by limiting educational opportunities,” Robinson said. “We not only deprive our students of educational opportunities, but we put ourselves in a place where we can no longer lead in the education space.”

Newly elected chair Angie Gallo says OCPS has a “robust policy” in place and is in compliance with state law.

Jasmine Burney-Clark, founder of the nonpartisan voting rights group Equal Ground, had sharper criticism. She noted Donalds declined to sign her organization's candidate pledge, affirming an intent to sign into law a Democratic-backed state voting rights bill — which Jolly did sign — and argued his weekend events were not genuine.

"Byron Donalds has been Black at the start of this election, and he will be Black at the end of this election," Burney-Clark told CBS News. "Black voters are not going to be fooled by his targeting and his manipulation tactics to pander to get their vote."
