We know that there is a lot of angst about music being stopped at the Legion. The problem is copyrighted music, and the performing rights organizations that control their use. For whatever reason we were notified that they knew we were having music events, and needed to pay to have these covered. Once we delved into this, we found there are four of these, and each has a different list of performers, composers, etc. So, to be totally covered we would have to pay all four, and it is an annual fee. The cost would be approximately $4000 to $6000 a year. This is a federal law, and has been enforced in the past. Just the fines that have been imposed range from the hundreds of dollars to over one hundred thousand dollars, and can be retroactive a number of years. Any venue that plays music, or has an event that plays music is subject to this law, and once you’re put on their radar they will check. We did our due diligence on this, and found a business in Peoria that suffered an $8000 fine. A business over by the river that had U.S. Marshals show up, and close the business down, and actually dump all the alcohol from the bar before they left. Folks this is no joke, and we needed to protect ourselves. We are a veterans organization, primarily serving the veteran community, and we can not allow the destruction of this mission. To answer your likely question we cannot afford to pay the fees required, unless we raise all our fees to a staggering amount.

Flags will go up at 7:00 A.M.
Flags will come down at 5:00 P.M.
This time will remain the same for the year.
The Flags of Love committee will notify media the night before if the flags will not be placed due to inclement weather.

We are so happy to hear that the ROTC program will continue at WIU.

The Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program will continue at Western Illinois University.
