Students making art in Unidad Park 🖌️

Young artists and their families joined Coloured Art Studio for four sessions of nature-focused art classes and hands-on projects. They learned foundational art principles like the color wheel, and created their own pieces using paint, oil pastels, cardboard and paper. They took inspiration from animals, trees, community, and the beautiful garden of art superheroes like Frida Kahlo 🌱🎨

Many parents joined the classes, some laughing as they recalled they haven’t made art since they were children. These are the most special park moments — neighbors of all ages connecting, laughing, and creating right in our local open space 🛝🤍

Growing smarter in our Golden Age Garden 🪏

These workshops truly leveled up our garden game! UC Master Gardener Sandra Luna taught our residents how to grow seasonally right from seed 🌱

Workshop participants went home with new seeds, thriving plants, and priceless gardening knowledge 🌟

Community Educator Liency Barboza recently hosted a series of hands-on cooking demos at West Athens Victory Garden.

She used fresh, locally grown ingredients and created recipes that were simple to prepare and delicious to enjoy🥗

For more than two decades, LANLT has been committed to addressing and improving park inequity. As a result, over 500,000 LA County residents now live within a 10-minute walk of one of our green spaces, but we aren’t stopping until every neighborhood has a thriving park of its own.

Making sure our shared spaces flourish 🛝
Refusing to settle for asphalt 🌳

A celebration we’ll always remember 💜

We are unbelievably grateful to have witnessed the students laugh as they ducked underneath the rainbow parachute and rolled around the real grass underneath 🌈🌱

☀️🌳Even as the heat sweltered, guests found respite under the shade of newly planted trees. As different speakers came to the podium to share, butterflies flitted around in the background—happy to visit one of the many California native plants growing around campus🦋

Esperanza Elementary School’s transformation shows us change is possible when we imagine and build together 🌀💙 Thank you to every partner, supporter, funder, community partner, student, and neighbor that contributed to this collective effort. Let’s keep the momentum. Every student deserves grass to run on, shade to rest under, and access to the worlds of wonder that nature provides us🌱

⭐️The Esperanza Elementary Green Schoolyard Project is HERE!🌳

IN 2020, LANLT partnered with Los Angeles Unified and community orgs to imagine a different kind of campus. Together, we transformed a school covered in pavement into an immersive, nature-focused campus, where students observe wildlife, play on grass, and stay cool in the shade of California native trees 🦋🦉🐛🐝

A moment of gratitude for Esperanza’s Principal, Brad Rumble, who recognized that students deserved better than an asphalt playground when he began his role in 2014. For years, Principal Rumble has been collaborating with Los Angeles Unified to implement small-scale greening projects, and this comprehensive renovation was possible because of his vision and support.
