The Sanaa Lathan Foundation was founded in August of 2015 by Tony-Award nominated actress, Sanaa Lathan. Lathan’s film credits include 35 independent and box office success features, including The Perfect Guy, Contagion, Something New, The Family that Preys, Brown Sugar, Love and Basketball, Out of Time and The Best Man, one of the top 10 highest grossing African American films in history. Lathan
received an NAACP Image Award nomination for her role on the FX Network series, Nip/Tuck. Known for delivering a striking presence and undeniable energy to each Hollywood project she takes on, Lathan no doubt applies the equivalent passion to her charity work. Lathan has actively supported HerShe Group, a nonprofit that provides foster care youth supportive housing, skills to successfully transition into adulthood and facilitating movement toward healing and growth and change, to inspire young women to successfully transition to adulthood. She founded The Sanaa Lathan Foundation to deepen her impact on women transitioning into adult independence.
“When I reflect back on my teen years, I am grateful that my mother and father were extremely supportive of me. I want to provide some measure of that same support to the youth who age out of foster care.” -Sanaa
