📌Bio: Cindy Mata is a proud Guanaca, who was born in El Salvador and moved to the U.S. as a young child. She was a former high school and middle school history teacher and is currently the Director of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) History Project. Her work involves providing high-quality professional development for history and Ethnic Studies educators in California. A particular area of focus of her work, and academic pursuits, focuses on how to best infuse Central American Studies in K-12 classrooms. To this end, she helped lead the development of the first Central American Studies Curriculum in K-12 commissioned for the State of California. Lastly, alongside her mentor, Profe Ochoca of CSULA, Cindy has developed a framework for teaching Central America in K-16 classrooms and communities. The framework posits that Central American Studies is an area of study born out of centuries of resistance and revolution. ✨ guanacascholar
