Friends of Guatemalan Children supports Casa Guatemala in their efforts of changing the world, one child at a time.

Thanks to donors, together we provide a loving home, education, nutritious meals and healthcare to over 200 vulnerable children.

Last week, the jr high kids needed to bring 5 tamales each into school for an activity that they were doing and so we decided that if we needed to make 50 we might as well make 200!! Making our traditional foods is something the kids love to be a part of and tamales are very hands on with a lot of steps and time put into their perfection! The results were delicious and we all enjoyed a special treat!

Report card day was last week and we were happy to welcome all of our families to visit with our teachers and house parents to review our students progress! Only one more semester to go! It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has passed but thanks to our donors and friends around the world we are able to continue our work!

It’s hard to believe that we are finishing our third semester of the school year! We are so proud of all our kids and the hard work they put into studying for their exams in addition to their classroom participation, public speaking skills, group activities and of course all their artistic activities that help to create well rounded and successful individuals!! Though some kids are wrapping up summer vacation and heading back to class, we are ready to start our last semester and begin our major fundraising season!! Your support is needed year round so please help us by making a donation or becoming a monthly donor!

Our connection to the regional culture is very important to us here at Casa Guatemala! Here some of the kids are practicing their traditional Mayan and Garifuna dances that they will present to the school in the upcoming weeks! We love to see them embrace their traditions and celebrate their heritage! All while practicing artistic expression and learning to have self confidence!

We were so sad to see our beloved Seño Lorena leave us last week and to show how much we will miss her we had a surprise going away party for her where all the kids had a chance to tell her how much we love her and how much she will be missed! At Casa Guatemala, our team spend all their waking hours with the kids and their fellow staff so we really do become a big family! We are sorry to see Seño Lorena go, but we know that she will always have us in her heart! Gracias Lorena por todo! Te queremos mucho!!
