Greetings Friends, Please like us and follow us as we start our uphill journey and struggle against some very powerful people. Our goal is to improve our densely populated, heavily trafficked, and highly congested area (the most dense in the country according to the last census) from becoming more congested and more trafficked by developers and their projects that don't bring anything to our commu
nity, but only make life harder for the people who are already here. This is a story of how the little people are going to fight back against what isn't fair nor sensible. Our first campaign is aimed at stopping a developer from intensifying the area's density by building on a tiny parcel that should be a community center, green space/park/kids playground for the whole community. The developer is gobbling up the parcel to build a charter school that would be 4 times the size of the previous pre-school that occupied the same property. The impact will be truly negative and overwhelm this congested area in very bad ways: congestion, noise, pollution, dangerous impassable streets and push traffic to its tipping point as hundreds upon hundreds of cars crowd the area dropping off and picking up over 430 kids every day twice a day during peak rush hours. The impact of their planned massive two story building intended to hold 430 kids and 35 or more staffers with only 21 parking spots will be devastating in the way of traffic and congestion. There are already plenty of schools here, both charters and public schools, and virtually zero green space for little kids and families to go to for relief from the overcrowding. We need parks and green space to offer relief and respite to community members. We already have plenty of schools and space in those schools for many many more children. Please support our hard working, low-wage families get justice in their own neighborhood by opposing Red Hook Capital and City Language Immersion Charter from occupying us. Please cross post this page to family and friends and help grow our community of supporters while we still have a chance. We will soon post our petition so if you support us you can sign it on line.
