Miriam's House is a 15 bedroom converted convent located in Culver City, California. It is a recovery home for mothers and a refuge for children to escape chaos and instability. The yearlong program nurtures the individual needs of both mother and child while fostering the healing process of fractured families. It is not a place for temporary shelter, though we provide food, clothing, and safety.

Rather, it is about mothers developing the life-long skills, including parenting and occupational therapy, to lead healthy, meaningful lives free from the confines of poverty and addiction.

For over 29 years, Dr. Mel Pohl, MD, DFASAM, has been on the front lines of the recovery movement, guiding individuals through their darkest moments toward healing.

His work goes beyond medicine; it is about seeing the person behind the addiction, restoring families, and believing in second chances when others have given up. A Board Certified Family Practitioner and addiction medicine specialist, Dr. Pohl currently serves as Chief Medical Officer at The Pointe Malibu Recovery Center and is a nationally recognized author and speaker on chronic pain and addiction.

Miriam’s House is proud to honor Dr. Pohl with the Distinguished Service in the Field of Recovery award at this year’s event.

The Palisades fires changed the landscape we know and love and touched the lives of so many of our friends, neighbors, and families. Because of the fires, we were unable to gather for our annual Polo in the Palisades tradition.

This year, we are incredibly grateful to return—with renewed perspective, gratitude, and remembrance for those who showed extraordinary courage, strength, and service when our community needed them most.

Among those who answered the call were the Palisades Fire Fighters of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Their courage and commitment to protecting our community will forever be part of the story of the Palisades. This year, Miriam’s House is honored to recognize them with the Partners in Service Award.

On September 19, we will gather once again at Will Rogers State Historic Park for the 18th Annual Polo in the Palisades. We hope you will join us.

We had such a wonderful treat this Saturday! 💛

We welcomed Katie Hutsel, Reiki Master Teacher, Sound Healing Facilitator, and founder of Elevate Healing Events, to Miriam’s house for a Self-Love Soundbath Meditation with our residents.

Through crystal singing bowls, guided meditation, and gentle intention-setting, our residents had the chance to slow down, breathe, and pour back into themselves.

What does a year of hope entail?

Sometimes, it manifests as a safe haven, a place to call home.

Sometimes, it appears as a mother finding the strength and support to rebuild her life.

Sometimes, it shows a child growing up in an environment of stability, love, and opportunities.

And sometimes, it takes a beautifully simple form:

A family staying together.
