We are excited to share that LANI's Director of Programs, Aleigh Lewis, will be speaking at the 2026 Resilient California Summit happening this week!

Aleigh will be joined by Isabelle Russell from the Council for Watershed Health to present a workshop called "Climate Champions Start Here: Hands-On Engagement that Builds Resilient Communities." Participants will discover how experiential engagement transforms abstract concepts like urban heat, stormwater capture, and nature-based solutions into memorable learning experiences that build climate literacy, inspire action, and empower community members of all ages to become climate champions in their own neighborhoods.

If you'll be in Sacramento, we hope you'll join us!

Parks come in all shapes and sizes, especially in urban environments. From large regional parks dotted with trails to pocket parks tucked onto medians, every green space in our city is precious and needs our care!

Measure PRK offers Los Angeles an opportunity to invest in cleaner, safer, better-maintained parks, expand recreation programs, plant trees, and address inequities in access to green space — all without raising taxes.

At LANI, we know firsthand how parks and public spaces strengthen neighborhoods and improve quality of life. Investing in our parks means investing in healthier, more resilient, and more connected communities across Los Angeles. That's why LANI endorses Measure PRK!

We had a great experience presenting at the recent APA California Conference 2026! LANI Program Manager Arturo was a panelist discussing "From Stories to Sidewalks: Mobility Planning Through Lived Experience" with a packed house. Our partners, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Alta Planning + Design, and Public Matters, rounded out the panel, providing a full spectrum of experience on how public-private partnerships can uplift community needs and result in built improvements.

Today, LANI stands with our tribal and indigenous neighbors to honor and celebrate and Native cultures, histories, and contemporary contributions to our communities. In LA, the holiday specifically honors tribes including the Tongva, Tataviam, Serrano, Kizh, and Chumash, whose ancestral lands spread across the region.

officially recognized Indigenous Peoples Day in 2017, becoming one of the largest U.S. cities to do so at the time. Today also marks the 50th anniversary of the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission, which was the first body of its kind in the U.S.

Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day! Let’s celebrate and be inspired by the resilience, wisdom, and beauty of our local Indigenous cultures.

LANI was honored to attend "Women of LA City Hall," an event co-hosted by our Board Vice President Courtney Torres benefiting CASA of Los Angeles. The event celebrating women working in LA city government brought together civic leaders, nonprofit professionals, community advocates, and others committed to making Los Angeles a stronger city. Events like this provide an important opportunity for LANI to connect with leaders and colleagues across Los Angeles and strengthen relationships that support our community-based work to turn neighborhood priorities into meaningful improvements in the public realm.

Congratulations to the evening's honorees: Councilmember Heather Hutt (District 10), Councilmember Ysabel Jurado (District 14), Councilmember Imelda Padilla (District 6), and Crystal Lee, on her historic appointment as the first woman City Engineer leading the Bureau of Engineering. As a women-led nonprofit, we are particularly proud to participate in spaces that recognize the contributions of women who are helping to shape Los Angeles by building more equitable, connected, and vibrant neighborhoods.

Clean, safe, and shady neighborhoods are an essential part of a healthier, more climate-resilient Los Angeles.

When sidewalks are accessible, comfortable, and connected to transit, people have more opportunities to walk, bike, and take public transportation instead of driving. Fewer car trips mean fewer vehicles on the road, less air pollution, and cleaner air for everyone.

Shade matters, too. Trees and other forms of shade help cool sidewalks and public spaces, making walking and transit more comfortable as temperatures rise. These investments deliver multiple climate benefits while making it easier for people to get where they need to go without a car.

For more than three decades, LANI’s community-driven work has recognized that infrastructure, mobility, public health, and climate resilience are all connected.

On California Clean Air Day, we’re celebrating investments in the public realm that improve air quality, address climate change, and create healthier, more equitable neighborhoods for all Angelenos - join us! Take the Clean Air Pledge today: www.cleanairday.org 🌳🚶🏽‍♀️🚌

West Adams is shining a little brighter! New street lights have been installed along West Adams Boulevard, bringing a warm, welcoming glow to the commercial corridor and creating a more inviting environment for residents, businesses, and visitors after dark. The project is part of the ongoing investment of the West Adams Business Improvement District (WABID) in beautification, pedestrian safety, and creating a vibrant neighborhood destination.

Local businesses, community members, and partners recently gathered for a lighting ceremony celebrating the project's completion. Councilwoman Heather Hutt (CD10 Updates) joined the celebration in front of Yo Chill Froyo, where attendees gathered to mark the occasion and officially celebrate the new lights that add both character and visibility to the corridor. By illuminating the sidewalks and storefronts, the project supports a more welcoming nighttime environment while highlighting the unique character of West Adams and its local businesses. Congratulations to the West Adams BID on bringing this project from concept to completion and on helping create a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant commercial corridor for everyone who in West Adams.
