Beacon House The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a long-term substance abuse recovery center You can learn more at www.thebeaconhouse.org.

The Beacon House Association of San Pedro is a state-certified, residential substance abuse recovery program for men with a sincere desire to achieve long-lasting abstinence from drugs and alcohol. As residents of the Beacon House, the men are provided with food, shelter, counseling, peer group support, educational opportunities and career training through social enterprise programs, including a T

hrift Shop. This allows the men to develop the life, career and social skills they need to build a foundation in recovery, while preparing them for a strong reintegration into the job market and a bright future when they return to their family, home and community. Recently named one of the best addiction treatment centers in the United States by Newsweek Magazine, men from 39 states across the country have received treatment at Beacon House. The organization has grown over the past 50 years to encompass a full city block in San Pedro, California, adjacent to the Port of Los Angeles, including six residential facilities with the capacity to house 110 residents, as well as a kitchen/dining facility. With the support of our donors and the local community, we have helped thousands of men get a second chance at life and regain their place as responsible, productive members of society.

For Annette, becoming a Lighthouse Keeper was an easy decision.

“Beacon House saved my son’s life,” she says.

Before finding us, her son had bounced from treatment center to treatment center, leaving her uncertain if any program could work for him. Now he has four years of sobriety, and Annette believes our long-term approach and comprehensive support made all the difference.

For her, the impact goes beyond sobriety. She is grateful for the time she has regained with her son.

“The least I can do is give a monthly donation,” she says, hoping other families can experience the same hope and healing she has.

Through her support as a Lighthouse Keeper, Annette is helping more men find lasting recovery and more families reconnect with the people they love.

Your monthly support can make all the difference. Become a Lighthouse Keeper today.

Fred's journey to recovery began almost 3,000 miles away. After years of drinking and watching his life unravel, he became desperate enough for a change that he drove across the country to find help at Beacon House.

Once he arrived, he realized how disconnected he had become from others and from himself. As he learned to express himself, get honest, and support the people around him, his perspective on life changed dramatically.

Today, Fred lives with purpose and direction. He is investing in his future by returning to school, he has rekindled his faith in God and has learned to care deeply for others.

This weekend, our men had a very special visitor.

The daughter of a Beacon House alumnus was visiting from out of town and wanted to encourage the dads in our program on Father’s Day.

Having her dad back in her life has had a profound impact on her, inspiring her to put together goodie bags for our men as a reminder that the work they're doing today matters.

06/19/2026

This Father's Day, the men of Beacon House would like to recognize the impact our dads have had on our lives.

For many of us, learning how to be responsible, self-sacrificing men has been one of the greatest challenges we've faced in sobriety. Some of us are also learning what it means to be fathers ourselves, working every day to show up for our kids with the same love, patience, and commitment that was shown to us.

Happy Father's Day! đź’™

Before arriving at Beacon House, Drew couldn't make it through a day without alcohol, and his health was rapidly declining. He tried short-term treatment programs and even moved to different states searching for a fresh start, but nothing seemed to work.

At Beacon House, working alongside other alcoholics became one of the most meaningful parts of his recovery. He learned to let go of old beliefs, develop a genuine relationship with a Higher Power, and how to forgive himself and others.

Today, Drew works as a certified substance abuse counselor at Beacon House. He recently earned his bachelor's degree from California State University, Long Beach and will begin graduate school there for Social Work this fall. Recovery has taught him that lasting change requires continual growth, so he keeps honesty and humility at the center of his life.

One of the most beautiful aspects of recovery is when people begin to reclaim their potential. That’s exactly what happened to Jesse.

Recently, he earned his high school diploma through Harbor Occupational Center and was selected to speak at the graduation ceremony. Jesse was also recognized with several awards, honoring his dedication throughout the program. In his addiction, Jesse struggled to finish anything that he started, but recovery has given him a new lease on life.

Congratulations, Jesse! Your hard work, resilience, and commitment to your recovery continue to inspire those around you. 👏

A group of Beacon House men recently joined San Pedro Historic Downtown Waterfront (PBID)'s Community Cleanup & Planting Day, spending the day sweeping streets, picking up trash, and helping beautify the community we proudly call home.

Recovery teaches us that growth comes through action, and this event was a great example of that principle in practice. By giving their time and energy to improve the public spaces we all share, our men felt a deeper connection to the community around them.
