What is the Red Zone?

Every year, from the start of fall semester to Thanksgiving break, sexual assaults on college campuses spike. This period is known as the Red Zone — and first-year students are especially vulnerable.

New environment. New independence. New social pressures. Less familiarity with campus resources and warning signs. It's a lot to navigate at once.

The most powerful thing you can do for a victim-survivor is believe them.

Don’t ask what they were wearing. Don’t question why they didn’t report sooner. Don’t wonder if they’re sure about what happened.

Just believe them.

When someone tells you they’ve been assaulted, they’re trusting you with something incredibly painful. That moment matters. Your response matters.

Believe them. Support them. Let them know they’re not alone.
