Urban Voices Project

Urban Voices Project creates supportive community spaces with music to bridge vulnerable individuals to a sense of purpose and improved health.

Urban Voices Project offers community singing and music education to provide practical opportunities for individuals to transcend their current circumstances and participate in a creative program of positive change. Composed of artists and performers from the Skid Row neighborhood in Downtown Los Angeles, this project was founded by The Colburn School and wesley Health Centers (JWCH Institute) and

now operates as an independent 501c3 to bring music, health & well-being, and connection to one of the largest homeless communities in the United States. The Urban Voices Project serves as a bridge to the wesley’s health and wellness services. Through music education, singing workshops, and a performing ensemble, UVP shares music and stories with many audiences inside and outside the neighborhood of Skid Row. Colburn School teaching artist Leeav Sofer directs the project together with a growing team: Christopher Mack, Kate Richards Geller, Thoralf Island, Erin Alford, Ana Riera-Pepe, Sarah Goodwin, Alison Lewis, Joanna Wallfisch, Kela Parker, Steph Meyers, Tracy Robertson, and more.
