Join us on August 23rd for SCHUBERTIADE!!!

This summer NECOLA held two week-long adult Chamber Music Workshops at Heart of LA, each with a BrandenBurgerQ in Atwater Village and a recital. For Schubertiade, we’re coming together to share our large ensemble pieces and invite our friends to join in, with Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture, Sibelius’ Death of Melisande, Schubert’s Octet for winds and strings, and two of his songs arranged for sinfonietta.

NECOLA (Northeast Chamber Orchestra Los Angeles) is a nonprofit increasing access to the art of chamber music and chamber orchestra for musicians and listeners of all stripes. With programs like Symphony Saturdays (one-day open orchestras), workshops and Schubertiades (salon concerts), NECOLA is creating spaces where anyone can participate in an art form that is too often exclusionary, and where joy and enthusiasm are the only requirements. As Beethoven said, “To play a wrong note is insignificant; to play without passion is inexcusable.”

We’re honored to be a community sponsor for this free upcoming event!🌻

Safe + Sound: Home is a free, outdoor live music event produced by LIGHTHAUS in partnership with Sounds of LA County and NextFest LA , bringing the Los Angeles community together around music, honest conversation, and mutual aid. This concert is a gathering space where art and community care share the same stage.

The evening features a curated lineup of local artists across an intimate, community-centered program hosted at Ruben F. Salazar Park in East Los Angeles. Openers O-Slice, Aziza Love, and Alfred Nomad each bring their own voice to a night centered on belonging, and the evening is anchored by the return of Los Angeles legends JDavey. Vocalist Jack Davey and producer D’LEAU’s boundary-defying blend of funk, new wave, soul, and alternative R&B helped define a generation of LA sound. JDavey are currently celebrating the 18-year anniversary of their landmark double album The Beauty in Distortion / The Land of the Lost, newly available on vinyl.

Throughout the evening, community organizations Scribble, Hope St. Distro and Traklife will be on-site to share resources, collect donations, and invite attendees into a broader network of mutual aid and community support. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sign up for a future volunteer day with Hope St. Distro.

Safe + Sound: Home is free to attend and open to all.

A percentage of proceeds will go toward our mutual aid partner, Hope St. Distro.

Get ur gloves on it’s time for EUPHORIA BOXING!!! 🥊 🪩🎉

Coming up on august 22nd, Euphoria Boxing is a spirited opportunity to learn the fundamentals of boxing through shadowboxing, footwork, focus mitts, and non aggressive partner drills, all while jamming to funk and soul bangers of the 80s. This class is great for beginners who want to try out some new moves in a supportive environment as well as seasoned boxers who just want to get a good cardio workout in!

Coach Katie Singer boxed her way through Brooklyn’s mostly ‘boys club’ gyms in the 80’s. The most notable of these was Gleason’s Gym, the oldest boxing gym in the U.S., and one of the few gyms who welcomed women into their space. Old school in her approach, Katie’s into technique, using her knowledge of varied sports to illustrate the ways boxing skills intersect with so many other physical activities. Boxing takes confidence - and it brings confidence, too! Katie recently received her USA Boxing Bronze Level coaching certification! When she’s not hitting things, Katie is writing and teaching within her scholarly field of African-American studies.

Taylor Blake is a local musician and a member of the scribble sound team. When Taylor isn’t playing music they can be found euphoric playing sports such as flag football, weight lifting, and boxing in Katie’s class at EVERYBODY. Taylor has been boxing for 2 years and loves it as an outlet for stress, a place to feel strong and in their body, and an opportunity to make friends in a non-competitive environment.
