Refugee Children Center

Refugee Children Center We welcome and offer resources to refugee children & their families fleeing persecution and life-threatening violence, who have sought refuge in the SFV.

Our Mission:
Refugee Children Center in North Hills is a healing embrace to the hundreds of children who have made the perilous journey from Central America to seek refuge in the San Fernando Valley. Our overarching goal is to reach out to these children and their families and offer our center as a place of welcome and healing through partnerships with community organizations to provide for basic

needs, services, and resources. Our Vision:
To be a place that provides refugee children in the United States support through a holistic approach while empowering them through education and an understanding of collaboration.

Earlier in May, we had the opportunity to join Raíces Fuertes Youth, in collaboration with Nature for All, for a visit to Santa Cruz Island on Chumash territory. Throughout the day, youth hiked the island, learned about its ecosystems and wildlife, and kayaked along the coast where they explored caves and experienced the powerful ocean winds together🙌🏻💙

It as a great opportunity for youth to connect with their indigenous roots. It was a meaningful day of connection with nature, culture, and one another.

Today, on Mother’s Day, we honor and celebrate all women whose love, care, strength, and resilience shape our communities every day. For us at the Refugee Children Center, this day holds deep meaning. Our work is rooted in the stories, sacrifices, and dreams of mothers who continue to nurture hope across borders and generations.

From moments of healing and community to spaces like Jardín Sin Fronteras, our work has been profoundly shaped by moms whose courage and tenderness guide us forward. We are endlessly grateful to walk alongside women who remind us that care is transformative, collective, and powerful. To all mothers, caregivers, and women in our community, thank you for the love you plant in the world every day. Happy Mother’s Day 💞

Children’s Day at the refugee children’s center was a gentle reminder of the joy that lives in community. We spent time sharing, dancing, laughing, and celebrating alongside families, but especially the children whose light filled every corner of the day. Moments like these remind me how meaningful it is to create spaces where kids can simply feel free, cared for, and celebrated. So much love and joy!🙌🏻

Earth Day is Every Day at RCC 🌍🌱

At the Refugee Children Center, holistic support means more than services, it means honoring the environmental justice and sustainability practices that indigenous communities have carried for centuries. We are so proud of the space in front of us. What was once just land has become a place where our families can reconnect with their agricultural roots, and where we all learn from one another.

Our caregivers lead the way. They take deep pride in growing, sharing, and passing down ancestral knowledge and today, they brought it to life by cooking pozole verde with fresh ingredients harvested right from our garden. 🌿🍲
This is what community looks like. This is what healing looks like.

Earth Day is a practice, a value, and a way of life we live every day.

Our most recent field trip was a special one for our moms, a visit to UCLA Botanical Garden. We were graciously invited by Professor Carla Shur in support of her Latinos, Linguistics, and Literacy course. A group of moms volunteered in the garden attended alongside their little ones. Together, they explored the garden on a guided tour, learned about diverse plant species, and shared a meal in community. This space offered a meaningful opportunity to disconnect from daily demands and reconnect with nature, and with one another. Through this experience, we reflected on the important role nature plays in our lives and well-being.

Thank you, Professor Carla, for creating and sharing this opportunity with us 💛

Our first field trip took us to Long Beach for an unforgettable Formula Drift experience, co-hosted by Accelerat8 Education. Through this opportunity, youth were able to step into a new world, witnessing professional drivers compete at a high level, engaging with automotive culture up close, and even experiencing a Ford Mustang drift ride firsthand.

Beyond the excitement, experiences like this expand what young people see as possible for themselves. Being in these spaces allows them to explore career pathways, build community with their Raíces Fuertes cohort, and feel a sense of belonging in environments they may not have previously had access to. From collecting memorabilia to sharing moments of joy together. A day full of inspiration!

We’re grateful to Accelerat8 Education for opening doors and creating experiences that empower youth to dream bigger and see themselves in new spaces.

Spaces like Jardín sin Fronteras remind us that community care is powerful. Our celebration reflected joy, recognition, and pride rooted in leadership that grows from within. When women are trusted to lead, to teach, and to nurture one another, we create something deeper than a garden, we build interconnected communities that sustain the heart of RCC.

Thank you to our partners at for believing in this vision and investing in spaces where healing, leadership, and community can flourish together🙌🏻🧡
