🎉 Congratulations to five College Match students starting fellowships with Coro California this summer! 🎉

Four College Match students are a part of Coro California’s 2026 Summer Youth Fellows Cohort:

Over six weeks, these four will dive into the civic life of LA through leadership seminars, internship placements, and community explorations that build the communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills necessary to navigate local government and the institutions that shape our city.

Additionally, one CMLA student is joining the 2026 Coro California Youth Climate Fellowship

🌟 Irene Park, LACES

Irene will spend three-plus weeks digging into the climate issues facing Southern California, visiting organizations across sectors, and exploring career paths in sustainability, policy, advocacy, and environmental justice.

We couldn’t be prouder to watch them take this next step.

“A moment from this trip I’ll remember is the sense of community in these small colleges. Being able to see just how similar I was to the tour guides was empowering. Before arriving at places like Amherst and Bowdoin, I viewed these institutions as exclusive, gatekept worlds. But as I walked the grounds, I realized that the students leading us weren’t just ‘elite’—they were relatable, passionate people who shared my interests. It turned these schools from names on a list into places where I could actually see myself living, studying, and growing.”⁠

"Moving across the country was not easy, but it was worth it! To the little girl who was raised by immigrant parents in Cypress Park: not only did you make it to Yale, but you graduated 💙⁠

No words can fully describe all the emotions this place brought me from joy and laughter, to tears, and everything in between. These past four years challenged me, shaped me, and gave me memories I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. But most importantly, they gave me lifelong friends who became family.⁠

"After four years at Bowdoin College, in the beautiful and welcoming town of Brunswick, Maine, I would have never imagined that a first generation Latina like myself would have found her home away from home at such a prestigious institution. Growing up in a predominantly immigrant neighborhood in Los Angeles, I witnessed firsthand the systemic barriers that limit access to communities in need of quality healthcare. Having this experience where quality healthcare felt like a distant privilege, I recognize that institutions hold the power to either facilitate or restrict access through the way they manage information, whether intentionally or not. This perspective has guided my journey as a Biology major and Government & Legal Studies minor at Bowdoin College. I am beyond grateful for the opportunities that have crossed my path during my time here, including gaining experience and being published in my Professor's research lab work on the visual system of Drosophila, and studying abroad in Madrid for a semester while volunteering with a nonprofit organization aiding the elderly within the healthcare sphere.⁠

None of this would have been possible without the help and support of college match, the Alliance Carson Scholarship, my wonderful friends that I met along the way, the incredible care that all Professors at Bowdoin College have for their students, and of course my parents, two extraordinary and hardworking individuals who sacrificed everything so their daughter could walk through doors they never had the chance to. “The late nights that I spent talking with my hotel roommates will definitely be some of the moments that I’ll never forget about the East Coast Trip. Whether it was about our personal lives, food, or visions for the future, I could not have been more happy to connect with my guys Jayden, Johan, and Oscar. I was pretty shocked to have been able to connect so well with these young gentlemen without knowing them too well previously, and it was awesome to have been able to build a sense of brotherhood in such a short amount of time—the conversations we had will be the ones I won’t forget for the rest of my life.” ⁠
