The gospel is not only heard but also seen through the love and care of the local church. Through faithful church partners, families like Mrs. Tadesse and Mimi’s are being reminded that they are not forgotten and that true hope is found in Christ alone.

Eleven-year-old Dina lives in Antananarivo, Madagascar with her grandma Andry and uncle Eric. They live in a single, wooden room and have struggled to earn enough money to cover food costs or send Dina to school.

Without the means to pay for formal schooling, Dina began to attend children’s club classes offered for free by Ankadivato Baptist Church. As the church welcomed Dina, they also stepped into her family’s story—visiting their home, bringing Food Paks, and sharing the hope of the gospel.

What began as a place to learn became a place of relief, relationship, and renewed hope. Making education available to children who are unable to afford school has created opportunities for Ankadivato Baptist Church to serve and share the love of Christ with families who are struggling.

Today, on National Day of Prayer, we pause to pray for children and families facing hunger and hardship all over the world.

We’re praying for:
• Children in need of hope and nourishment
• Pastors and churches faithfully serving their communities through Food Paks
• Families walking through difficult seasons, that they would feel seen, supported, and loved

We’re grateful for every person who continues to stand with these families through prayer, compassion, and generosity.

“The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week, we’re sharing Korene’s reflections on how Poverty Encounter gives students a rare, firsthand look at poverty, something many may never otherwise experience, while also offering hope and showing them that they can be part of the solution. We’re grateful for educators who create space for learning that builds understanding, compassion, and action. Learn more at

When a family is facing poverty, a child’s education is often at risk. In the region of Ethiopia where Pastor Edisu serves, limited resources prevent many children from attending school, motivating his commitment to ensure every child in his community can enroll and learn. Education is essential for children everywhere, and here in the United States, teaching students about global poverty helps build awareness, compassion, and a desire to create change beyond their own communities. To support educators in this effort, Children’s Hunger Fund has created a free lesson plan that introduces students to the realities of global poverty—download "Introduction to Poverty" using the link in bio.

Hunger reflects the brokenness of a fallen world, shaped by poverty, conflict, disaster, and injustice.

Understanding these causes reminds us that addressing hunger requires long-term, consistent care. As believers, we are called to respond with mercy, both serving physical needs and pointing to the lasting hope of the gospel.

There are many misconceptions about hunger. At Children’s Hunger Fund, the reality is both bigger and more meaningful than many people realize.
Food Paks are an important part of what we do, but they are just one piece of a larger mission to care for children and families in practical and lasting ways. Even meal can make a difference. A single act of care can open the door to a relationship where families are supported through a local church and introduced to the hope of the gospel.
Hunger isn’t limited to one part of the world. It exists in communities everywhere, including here in the United States, where thousands of Food Paks are distributed each year.

Hunger is often rooted in deeper challenges that affect families for generations.

In Guatemala, thousands of families live and work in a city dump, where even children search through waste to survive. With limited access to education, healthcare, and opportunity, the cycle of generational poverty continues.

In Haiti, natural disasters have displaced over a million people—many of them children. Homes, schools, and livelihoods are lost in moments, leaving families struggling to rebuild with very limited resources.

In Nepal, families trapped in debt bo***ge work in brickyards under harsh and dangerous conditions. Even children are forced to work, often unable to ever escape the cycle.

In Romania, many orphaned children grow up without support, some living in unsafe conditions just to survive. Without access to stability or care, their future opportunities are deeply limited.

These realities remind us that hunger is not just about food—it is connected to poverty, instability, and lack of access to opportunity.
