Keeping Blythe Street clean is a team effort! Our Casa Esperanza Community Inspectors put in the work this month, collecting 284 pounds of trash, sweeping sidewalks, and reporting 26 bulky items through the app.

Our Community Inspectors at Casa Esperanza spent the morning helping clean up Blythe Street! Together, we picked up 284 pounds of trash, swept the sidewalks, and reported 26 bulky items through the app.

One of the best parts was seeing our efforts inspire neighbors to join in and help keep the neighborhood clean. Every cleanup makes a difference!

Our Agua Academy students wrapped up their final field trip with a visit to ! They explored water conservation through the lens of sustainable farming, tasted fresh fruits and vegetables straight from the garden, and took home their own plant to keep growing their knowledge at home.

Our Casa Esperanza Community Inspectors visited the Bowtie Project to see what community advocacy can accomplish.

As part of our Parks and Open Space sessions, they learned how organizing and advocacy can create healthier, greener neighborhoods. The Bowtie Project is a powerful example of that work in action—transforming land in an industrial area into much-needed open space and wetlands after more than a decade of community effort.

Seeing these victories firsthand reminds us that lasting change starts with community.

Our first-ever Agua Academy is off to an amazing start!

This week, our young water leaders got a surprise visit from water expert Miguel Luna, who led a hands-on activity exploring how every part of the water cycle is connected. To wrap up the lesson, each student made their own water cycle bracelet, with every color representing a different stage of the journey.

Our Casa Esperanza Community Inspectors put in the work during this month’s cleanup on Blythe Street! 💪 Together, they collected more than five large bags of trash, reported bulky items and illegally dumped furniture using the Myla311 app, and even cleared weeds throughout the surrounding area.

Our February Vecinos meeting left us in a truly collaborative spirit! We received updates from Senior Lead Officer Ruelas, CD6 Field Deputy Odalys and a visit by Ruthie Escarcega, Director of Andres and Maria Cardenas Recreation Center. We also welcomed mural artist Jesse Renderos, who alongside Councilwoman Imelda Padilla , invited community members to share their vision for the upcoming mural at Sepulveda Recreation Center.

For this mARTEs session, our CASA youth created vibrant artworks inspired by their Chinese Zodiac signs using the Eric Carle collage technique. Known for classics like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Tiny Seed, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?, Eric Carle’s signature layered tissue-paper style sparked so much creativity in the room. It’s been beautiful to see each piece come to life! 🎨

We received our updates from Senior Lead Officer Ruelas and CD6 Field Deputy Odalys, and Haven Services hosted an information session about their File 4 Free tax preparation program available to community members. Our Casa Team also shared their latest updates.
