Wildfire recovery isn’t just about rebuilding what was lost. It’s also about investing in the people who will help shape what comes next. 🛠️💛

Pasadena City College is expanding its role in LA’s recovery. California Volunteers awared PCC with more than $500,000 for a new Wildfire Recovery College Corps. They also broke ground earlier this year on a new construction trades facility, an LA Rises-funded initiative, designed to prepare students for careers helping rebuild fire-impacted communities.

It’s one example of how local institutions are turning recovery into opportunities for skills, jobs and long-term community resilience. 💪🏽

In January 2025, Miguel Alvarenga watched the very home he built himself 20 years ago be destroyed by the Eaton Fire. Now, after 20 months of displacement and navigating the rebuilding process, Miguel and his family have finally broken ground on their new home. 🏡

Although Miguel may not be doing all the heavy lifting himself this time around, his designs, ideas, and vision will once again help shape his family’s home. And with neighbors also beginning to return and rebuild around them, this represents another sign of progress for an Altadena neighborhood slowly coming back to life.

Congratulations to the Alvarenga family on this next chapter. We can’t wait to welcome you home. 💛

The Palisades Recreation Center, a central piece of the Palisades community, is making a comeback. 💛

Ground has broken on the rebuilding of the new rec center and surrounding park, which were destroyed in the Palisades Fire.

The $50 million project will restore gathering spaces, fields and playgrounds, while adding two indoor basketball courts, two indoor pickleball courts, expanded community rooms and more. Construction is expected to take about 14–16 months.

For families who grew up playing here, gathering here and making memories here, this is another meaningful step forward in the Palisades recovery. 🌴

We’ll keep sharing updates on the places, resources and projects helping LA’s fire-impacted communities rebuild.

Lamar recently took a trip to Palisades Village and let’s just say, we may have found him a new weekend hangout spot👀

After recently reopening its doors, this special part of Pacific Palisades is once again welcoming the community back with shops to explore, places to grab a bite, outdoor spaces to enjoy, and even more still to come.

If you needed a sign to make that trip, this is it. Grab a friend, plan a day , show some love to the local businesses and experience Palisades Village for yourself 💛🛍️

Thanks to a $300,000 grant from the California Fire Foundation , the Fire Poppy Project and Dena Soil Project are helping provide whole-home remediation at no cost to impacted Altadena residents.

Their work tackles both indoor smoke contamination and fire-impacted soil, helping families address environmental concerns caused by the Eaton Fire that can cost tens of thousands of dollars to remediate on their own.

"What's happening now, I would never have been able to afford that kind of thing being done." said James Dangerfield (Altadena Resident).

So far, the teams have helped remediate more than 175 homes, with hopes of reaching another 100 families. For residents who may otherwise have had to take on these costs alone, this support is helping make the path home a little more accessible. 🫂

New protections are coming for California wildfire survivors.

A package of four new state laws expands mortgage protections, strengthens insurance coverage, and establishes new standards for testing and remediating wildfire smoke damage. For LA fire survivors, that could affect everything from mortgage forbearance to how smoke-damaged homes are tested, cleaned, and restored.

We know policies like these can be complicated to navigate while you’re already rebuilding. LA Rises will continue sharing updates on the resources, programs, and policy changes that may affect survivors throughout recovery.

The Uplifters Foundation, a local nonprofit formed after the Palisades Fire, has presented a plan to purchase lots from fire survivors who have decided not to return and build new fire-hardened, 2,600-square-foot homes across several impacted neighborhoods that could bring 60 new homes and families back to Pacific Palisades 🏡

Under the proposed plan, completed homes would initially be leased at below-market rates for one year with an option to buy, with returning Palisades families given the first opportunity to lease.

"We don't pretend to have every answer, and we know this program won't work for everyone. But if we can help approximately 60 displaced families return to Pacific Palisades sooner than they otherwise could, while preserving the character of our neighborhood and demonstrating a model that encourages others to rebuild, that's what we're trying to do," said Lee West (President/Co-Founder of Uplifters Foundation)

The foundation hopes to begin construction in Spring 2027, with the goal of completing all 60 homes by 2029 ⚒️

After losing her home in the Palisades Fire, longtime resident Michelle Murphy found inspiration in the resilience of her community. Now, she’s creating another place for neighbors to come together with her new storefront, Pali Trading Post 🏪

The new neighborhood general store celebrates the history of Pacific Palisades, offering household items, birthday gifts, self-care products, and more from local brands and businesses, including some that showed up for residents in the aftermath of the fire.

"I came to the realization that if the residents of the Palisades don't build it back, whether that's their home or a business, it won't represent us," Says Murphy

Michelle hopes Pali Trading Post can become a gathering place where neighbors reconnect and continue rebuilding the sense of community that makes the Palisades such a special place 🫂

Since the Eaton Fire, All Hands and Hearts has continued showing up for Altadena through partnerships with local organizations and residents 💛

Their work has helped repair fire-damaged homes, revitalize spaces at Odyssey South Charter School, and provide fresh produce to more than 1,700 fire-affected families through the Altadena Farmers Market.

At the recent Dena Voices Community Dialogue and Resource Day, 159 residents gathered alongside 17 organizations and community leaders, with 7,000 pounds of local produce distributed and conversations focused on Altadena’s future.

""It was a gift to be among so many likeminded community members who care deeply about soil, food systems, and the wellbeing of our neighborhoods,"" said a local community partner.

Their work doesn't stop there as, AH&H is helping the community prepare for the future by expanding wildfire preparedness education, home-hardening awareness, safety training, and practical resources to reduce wildfire risk.
